Looks like a user error caused venting incident. He probably built too low for the battery's amp limit, fired it up, and vented the battery.

I'd explain it in more detail, but any more detail would be "too much" detail for anybody who doesn't get unregulated mechanical mods and rebuildable dripping atomizers.

What the HELL exactly happened there? I see the guy getting ready to light a cigarette im assuming? And then boom! Was it a gas leak or something along those lines??

Something along those lines. In an unregulated mechanical mod, a battery will drain electricity at whatever amperage the resistance of the coil in the atomizer permits. If the resistance in the coil is too low, the amperage of that drain will exceed the battery's physical ability to withstand. The battery overheats until the metal casing fails -- usually at one end or the other and, at that, usually at the end that isn't blocked by the atomizer, meaning...

The ass end of the battery physically bursts open, spewing superheated gases. That's what "venting" means. And that's what appears to have happened in that video. Kid ignored Ohm's Law and built his coil with too low a resistance. Battery couldn't handle the amperage, and pop.
