New technology in warfare: Drone swarms.

This is a very cheap and easy new tech which no one has really thought about thus it can be a disruptive technology in land, air, and navel technology. It has obvious limits, such as how long the batteries cables on these drones, but if close enough it can do swarm attacks to damage key systems or defensive positions making ships or fighting units more vulnerable to follow up attacks. Most key it is dirt cheap and risks no human life for the attackers and no existing defensive systems are designed to combat it.

What do folks think? To my understanding no American or British forces are yet thinking about this while Communist China has gotten in big thinking it is a cheap and easy was to disruptive western advantages. I do know an Australian company has started thing about this but at a much smaller scale and with a much smaller budget.

That Phalanx was a bad assed motherfucker back in the 80's when I worked for General Dynamics. I cant imagine how much better it is today! A supposedly private company from China is scouping up vast amounts of data on Americans and other nationalities and communist law in China says they must give it all over to the CCP. The Navy has had two encounters off the California coast where foreign drone swarms are used to collect data on US Navy ships. It is unknown if the drones are being launched from supposedly civilian ships (communist China uses its maritime militia on supposedly civilian ships all the time) or if the drones were launched from submarines. Someone is launching them though and it caught U.S. intelligence completely be surprise.

It is almost a year old but Forbes explains why every military on Earth is now trying to develop drone swarms.

How Communist China will likely invade Taiwan. Supposedly civilian ships will be loaded with militia and launch cheap, small, fast boats. Missiles and ages will bomb air fields and air defenses. Drones will be used for intelligence gathering, to jam
communications, and bomb strategic assets. Helicopters will ferry air assault troops while para troops will be dropped leading to 100,000 troops being dropped inland to fight in cities and seize strategic areas. The PLAN will try to blockade the island before the final landings on the shore.

Taiwan can't really defend against this unless it arms and trains its entire population which it seems unwilling to do.
