As a Canadian, I would much rather buy Made in Canada. Even for repairs or warranty issues it is much easier dealing with Canadian manufacturers; no worries about shipping across a border. That works the same for Americans buying Made in USA.

For instance, the labour cost to manufacture a new car is about 10-15%.

Let's take a car that retails for $50,000. The manufacturing cost would reasonably be $40,000. Now for anyone following along, I am not including costs that are incurred after the car is made, like transportation to the dealer, etc..

So we will go with the high number: 15% which is only $6,000. Now factor in the lower transportation costs, etc. and the difference of the retail price will be insignificant.

They say Made in Canada is more expensive too. I watched a Dragon's Den a few nights ago. A woman from Quebec has built a clothing company. She makes everything from recycled or eco friendly products. The "dragons" were all "Wow, this is so nice. So soft and comfortable." etc. They seemed to really like the clothes. I mean, she is selling $10mil plus per year, so they are probably nice clothes. And they are not expensive. Way less than expensive clothes that are made off-shore. When they asked her where they are made, she said "All in Canada." I think the "dragons" nearly shit their pants and panties, because they are all infested with the idea that everything has to be Made in China to be affordable.

Anyways, we will see how it goes. I think we are going to see Made in USA and Made in Canada products a lot more and we will all benefit from the quality without spending more or at least much more. And with our healthy economy we will all have a lot more to spend.
