(Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump said Venezuela would relinquish as much as 50 million barrels of oil to the US, worth roughly $2.8 billion at the current market price, announcing the cargoes would be sold with proceeds benefiting both countries.

The announcement late on Tuesday, which came with few details, marked a significant step up for the US government as it seeks to extend its economic influence in Venezuela and beyond after the capture of leader Nicolas Maduro over the weekend. It’s also a blow to China, previously the top buyer of the country’s oil and a close partner.

But apparently US border guards scan cellphones of foreigners entering the US to make sure they arent saying anything bad about Donald

And if people dare protest in the streets of foreign countries against Trump the cia and us state department are watching

I think people who support Trump are hurting other people. Trump is a dangerous, evil man, and supporting him is morally repugnant, imo. Dove is one of the blindest, most in-denial people I've ever come across.

My mom sad she met nazi pows during world war ii detained in canadian pow camps. She said they were the nicest young men. Many didnt know why they were fighting. But they were doing the biddng of Hitler. I think many just wanted 3 sq meals a day a warm bed to sleep in a job and the war to end soon

This is true, but there is all the evidence in the world that Trump is a bad human being. I question anyone who supports him and goes into denial about the ways in which Trump is hurting people. And Dove has, for years, been blaming liberals for everything that goes wrong in the world. She doesn't apply any logic to her complaints, and she is really unkind about it.

You’re on it. I started with gold and silver during COVID. Glad I did. These metals are where they’re at because there is no confidence in Trumps economy. Both are up there this morning. Gold is $4518. Silver is at $79. I’m buying all the silver I can.

I know there's a lot gong on down there that's dangerous, but what Trump did is against international law. if they let him get away with it, that means ANY country can go in and kidnap the leader of any other country for whatever reason they make up. This is not acceptable. Do you think Putin should kidnap Trump and take him to Russia?

And I am being honest, if Biden had done it I would also have been infuriated. I actually stand up for my own convictions, not my party. And, for the 100th tim, I DID NOT VOTE FOR BIDEN. I didn't vote for him because I'm not a damn Democrt and i do not believe in thst party.

Maduro was not Venezuela's president. He's not their leader. He's a criminal that inherited the country from another criminal, Chavez, who, as a matter of fact, tried a real coup in the early 90's and managed to get in power a few years later because the oil barons needed to make the price of oil to go up. Remember how the whole thing in Venezuela and turmoil in the middle east started happening at almost the same time?

Venezuela actually played a key role in making the price of oil go up after it had collapsed in the late 1990s.

Oil Price Collapse (Late 1990s)
In 1998, oil prices were very low, falling temporarily below $10 per barrel. This price crisis was partly a result of:
  • Global oversupply: There was an imbalance of supply and demand, with production outpacing demand.
  • Venezuela's policy at the time: Under pressure from its state oil company, Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), the government pursued a policy of maximizing oil volumes and disregarding OPEC quotas, which contributed significantly to the oversupply and price crash.

Oil Price Recovery (Late 1990s/Early 2000s)
The situation reversed with the election of Hugo Chávez as president in December 1998. His new government, along with the governments of Mexico and Saudi Arabia, successfully promoted a new understanding within OPEC to adhere to production cuts.
  • Coordinated production cuts: The new Venezuelan oil minister traveled to other oil-producing countries and secured commitments to reduce production.
  • Price increase: These actions caused the price of oil to immediately go up, from an average of $12.28 per barrel in 1998 to $17.47 per barrel in 1999, and higher still in 2000.
Therefore, Venezuela's policy shift was instrumental in the price increase that occurred at the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s, not earlier in the late 1990s during the period of low prices.

They should have conducted the raid with the open blessing of the current Venezuelan regime (who actually supported the removal of Maduro) and then had him tried in Venezuela by Venezuelans. sending Maduro to the US made it look like regime change by the US which doesn't look very good

There was widespread support to remove Maduro by the current Venezuelan regime.
