As a Federal retiree, this is great news. I was there when Ronnie Ray Guns passed these BS laws. He claimed federal workers were 'double dipping' when he himself was TRIPLE dipping. Fucking hypocrites. Yes, decades of work to get this shit reversed. My union was heavily involved in the fight. THANKS BRANDON!!!!!
It really only affects Federal retirees. I don't qualify. I spent three years Army, paid into SS for that and pre-Army work. But then I spent 36 years Federal after that so no SS input. I don't even have 40 quarters. But my CSRS pension was well funded and in the black forever. That pissed off the Conservaturds so they [under Reaguns] killed it, changed it to FERS, combined that with SS, which still sucked, so they had to add a thrift plan to bring it up to near what CSRS was. Still not as good.
But a person that worked at any other job, paid SS, and then worked a Federal job and retired, they got their SS that they paid into, reduced to squat. It is only because of the Federal component. I know a lot of people that got fucked by this.
When I separated, I was told I just earned three years of federal pension benefits. I figured, great, it counts towards my Federal time going forward. They fucked that over too. I had to 'buy back' my military time to have it be added to my primary Federal pension.
I love these asshat politicians that claim to 'support our troops'. Then they fuck them at every turn.
No, my wife was a NYC employee. She paid into her pension, and SS. She collects both. Now, even though I made more than her while we were working, she now collects more than me because of SS.I thought it impacted some other government employees also, like teachers, cops, etc...but maybe they didn't pay into it.

Find out what job she had. I'll bet it was Federal.I know that @LotusBud has said that she's been excluded.

I know two people that worked Federal while it was CSRS, left or got fired, came back later when it was FERS/SS. So they are considered CSRS-OFFSET. That means they collect CSRS and SS, but a rate that equals regular CSRS. But get this. Under that scenario, since you are eligible to collect SS at age 62, even if you don't, you are penalized a percentage of SS at age 62, simply because you are eligible. That worked out to around $400 a month SS reduction. That REALLY sucks. I hope this law changes that.
Did I call it or what! Oldslowjagoff here is a parasite leech who sucked his living from the taxpayers his whole life and never produced a single thing of value that anyone would pay a dime for at a garage sale.As a Federal retiree, this is great news. The fact that you will spend your twilight years without a pension living in abject squalor is on you and nobody else but you, you should have pulled yourself up by your bootstraps a long time ago.Oldslowjagoff likes him some memes. That's because, like all Registered Democrat filth, he needs someone else to tell him what to think.
So ... you didn't answer the question, pansy. What's it like being a taxpayer parasite leech who never produced a single thing of value to anyone for your entire career? Is it sad to realize that that once you stopped "working" at your government job, no one noticed, and that if you had never done your government job in the first place, no one would have noticed that either.
That's gotta be a disappointment in your dotage, huh?
To my fellow proletarians, please start paying attention. Musk/Dimon/Fink/Murdoch/trump is not thinking about me or you.Update: if you are a Federal or other retired worker and got your SS benefits reduced or denied because of the WPE/GPO laws, then you should read this.
If you had your 40 quarters from another job, and when you applied for SS benefits, they were reduced or eliminated because of WPE/GPO, but you APPLIED, then SSA is taking care of making you whole. Because you are in the system already and they have your records. They are in fact making it a priority because of the new law. They hope to get it done very soon. If you have a MySSI account you can watch the progress.
If you have the 40 quarters, but never APPLIED for SS because you felt it was not worth the time, DO IT NOW. Go online, create a MySSI account, apply, they will process you. It will take some time, but they are working on it.
If you do NOT have the 40 quarters, but are married to someone who has the 40 quarters and is collecting full SS benefits, you can apply for SPOUSAL benefits, or SURVIVOR benefits, if that is your situation. You will not get full SS benefits, but whatever they figure you are entitled to. When you first apply, they will DENY you. That is OK. All it means is that you are not entitled to FULL SS benefits. Then they will process you for the SPOUSAL or SURVIVOR benefits.
The law took affect back in July 2024. When you apply, select that your benefits begin July 2024. They are retroactive to that date. Get this done as fast as you can before everyone at SSA gets fired.
Yes, they're thinking about porn.To my fellow proletarians, please start paying attention. Musk/Dimon/Fink/Murdoch/trump is not thinking about me or you.
