High unemployment is a good thing, if people learn from it.

Efficiency is good. There is no reason that we need the same number of people to get the same amount of work done that we needed 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, etc. years ago.

Embrace technology.

When you have all these unemployed people, maybe someone brilliant will say "Hey, does the 40 hour work week still make sense?"

Maybe it will take a crisis for people to realize what I have realized for decades.

Good points. A perfect example on the DOGE front is the IRS. 40 years ago most people filed their taxes as paper forms and mailed them in. Someone at the IRS had to physically review each and every one of those forms. Today, I believe it's just under 90% of all tax filers file electronically. With advancements in AI and digital information flow, one would think that the efficiency of the IRS should be thousands of times better than when everyone sent in paper forms.

But because government is government and inefficient by design, today the IRS actually has more employees than they did 40 years ago when every paper tax form had to be reviewed by a human being. What the fuck are all these IRS employees doing all day since today most of all of their jobs are performed by digital automations?

The deadwood should be let go.

Do you have 1000 times less work than you did 40 years ago? Just asking.

Well, since I'm kinda semi-retired, then yes. I do have a 1000 times less work than I did 40 years ago, but that wasn't even a half-way clever deflection.

Do you not agree that the IRS really doesn't need even more employees today than they did 40 years ago since over 90% of the man hour labor requirements needed to process millions of paper tax returns have been eliminated through digitization?

Remember, it's the Department Of Government EFFICIENCY, dear.

Don't you want our government to be efficient? Especially the agency that collects all the taxes you seem to love so much.

And I did not want to cloud or complicate the discussion, but I will say that OCR (Optical Character Recognition) has become so advanced that even the paper tax returns can be processed much more quickly than "the old days".

It is just silly to not acknowledge that in many, many areas our workforce is much, much more efficient.

I think they need more employees to go after all the tax dodgers.

There will be a lot of jobs in manufacturing once the full effect of the tariffs is felt.

Or they can join the displaced coal miners.

They are just following the mindset of previous politicians that approved, or planned to wipe out an entire vocation

"The message was so atypical for a politician wooing votes. "We'll put coal miners out of business," Hillary Clinton warned the audience at Sunday night's Democratic Town Hall in Columbus, Ohio, giving credence to President Obama's "War on Coal."

If USA embraces technology, a lot of people will be out of work.

Even when American manufacturing is brought back, there should be a lot of unemployed people.

Imagine....Full Production, Workforce Surplus....

A lot of people think that would be a problem.

That would not be a problem.
