I need to remember the obvious. If I met these kind of people in real life, what would I do? I was out with one of my closest friends yesterday. He told me a story about a recent trip to SF. He's a gay man. He went with his love interest. He exited a bathroom in a very crowded bar in SF. He couldn't move about without easily bumping into others. He came to a place where he couldn't get past. A younger man, maybe 25, was blocking the way. He casually tapped the man and said "Excuse me". The guy turns around and shrieks "Don't touch me!" at him. He was surprised to hear this guy shrieking and kind of irritated. He looks at the guy and says "Don't worry, you're ugly, you have nothing to worry about." (Gay men can be particularly snide...well, some can). He walks back to his table to rejoin his person. They're starting chatting when, apparently a friend of the shrieky guy, walks up to him "Fuck you, you can't say that. You made him cry, he's sobbing." And continues to tell him "fuck you" over and over right in his face. Now my friend is 6 ft 1, and a veteran from the Marines. He left as a Captain. He commanded enlisted men. He can take down a mofo, his sexuality doesn't have a thing to do with his masculinity or his ability to hand down a beat down. He said "Lily, I just stared at him...5, 10, 15 years ago I would have punched him in the throat. It briefly crossed my mind in the moment. I realized that whatever was going on with these young men out there these days has little to do with me. I just didn't respond". That guy just walked away. See here, we have people shrieking every day about nonsense. Just unadulterated fucking bullshit. In real life, we wouldn't tolerate it. Maybe I'm just aging, but it's becoming intolerable.
