over about 100 years in South, Central and North America, causing large swaths of farmland to be abandoned and reforested, researchers at University College London, or UCL, estimate. The increase in trees and vegetation across an area the size of France resulted in a massive decrease in carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere, according to the study.

Carbon levels changed enough to cool the Earth by 1610, researchers found.

“CO2 and climate had been relatively stable until this point,” said UCL Geography Professor Mark Maslin, one of the study’s co-authors. “So, this is the first major change we see in the Earth’s greenhouse gases.”

Before this study, some scientists had argued the temperature change in the 1600s, called the Little Ice Age, was caused only by natural forces.

But by combining archaeological evidence, historical data and analysis of carbon found in Antarctic ice, the UCL researchers showed how the reforestation – directly caused by the Europeans’ arrival – was a key component of the global chill, they said.

“For once, we’ve been able to balance all the boxes and realize that the only way the Little Ice Age was so intense is … because of the genocide of millions of people,”

etc, read on.

I used to talk about that problem on these forums a lot with Caskur.

I see that Lardo @Lily gave a little Spazz Out reaction to my post....

Here is something I said to Caskur in 2021:

And planting trees. We have been on the same page on that topic for a long time.

Evidence of exactly what I said.

So fuck off with your constant leg-humping and negativity, Lardo @Lily.

...and of course syphilis was passed back to Europeans by "filthy and diseased" injins then.

..and what of the Black Death? Introduced by "filthy and diseased" muslims into Europe.

One disease vs the numerous were brought over to the Americas? Not even close.

Diseases aren't racist. They just happen. And the facts are clear. Europeans killed off 90% of indigenous Americans with their diseases.

And the Mongols in the 14th century were muslims.

Q: Were the mongols at the siege of Caffa (where plaugue was deliberately introduced to the city by the mongols) muslims?

A: Yes, the Mongols who besieged Caffa were largely Muslim, as many of the Golden Horde Khans had converted to Islam by the time of the siege, which is why the event is often associated with Muslim forces attacking a xtian city; the siege was led by Khan Jani Beg, a Muslim Mongol ruler.
