Is Trepanation A Cure?

Almost 20 years back I read a book called The AMOK Journal which covered Bore Holeing and it being the cure for mental illness back in the old days..

People today still call this a stress reliever as the weight the brain fluid restricts your brains cognitive function, so if science has documented positive results why did they even resort to lobotomy..

Can health be achieved this way, besides protecting your brain from damage does this fluid restrict full brain capacity
