That is sickening, and the US is far too violent, but still not as violent as many other countries.
It is indeed sickening. My second world country is far more civilized than the US. By miles. I cannot explain to you what it feels like to suddenly realize you have spent your life always on alert without realizing it, and then to suddenly not be on alert anymore. It is a profound experience. That is sickening, and the US is far too violent, but still not as violent as many other countries.
Yours is excellent btw.
The US has a higher homicide rate than Angola, India, Pakistan, Turkey, and Liberia, to name just a few of the countries that are safer. That is sickening, and the US is far too violent, but still not as violent as many other countries.

..and far fewer than so many others with 6 or 8, 10 or more times the rate. The US has a higher homicide rate than Angola, India, Pakistan, Turkey, and Liberia, to name just a few of the countries that are safer.
True there are many countries with higher rates. But the propaganda disseminated and bought hook, line, and sinker by so many is that the US is the greatest country in the history of mankind, and given that there are literally more than 100 countries that are safer than the US, and many of them are 3rd world countries, the violence level in the US is nothing short of shameful. And the US is not a country suffering from an actual war within its borders, either. It's incredible...and far fewer than so many others with 6 or 8, 10 or more times the rate.
What's interesting to note though, is that for all the attention to mass murders (4 or more deaths) the total number killed in mass murders is a very small proportion to the overall number. We don't read about those individual incidents that make up the vast majority, and of course, the ones we do read about are horrifying because they involve random killings of people who have no relation to the perpetrator - and often it's kids.
Pretty sure the US doesn't rank very high in most quality of life categories and is descending into 3rd world status as society becomes less cohesive, more divided. A big portion of the murders are related to gang violence, criminal activity, so there are epicenters for murders while other areas/segments of the population a relatively free.True there are many countries with higher rates.
