I don't think it's gonna help you see the stars any better.

Not for the stars but for the "faint fuzzies" that are on the threshold of detecting (pinwheels, spiral galaxies, weird nebula,etc.. that stuff you see in Hubble pics). I go to dark sights and use red lights as it takes an hour for the eyes to adapt then you can see them if the sky is black and your scope is big enough then pow!.. it'll blow you mind lol.
