Yes, it does seem this part of the world is a lost cause most of the time. However, they are able to pull a lot of the world into their conflict. That's what concerns me a great deal.

I do see the concerns on both sides. One group of people are being repressed by the other. However, the Jews were almost exterminated just 80 years ago...they don't want to come to the brink ever again.

That being said, they are at the brink of complete and utter disaster, more so now than even when Israel became a state.
