This image was posted on a FaceBook page along with the caption "I found this in my Uncle's bathroom medicine cabinet, what is it used for?".

The responses span several days now and for the most part has evolved into a flaming match with almost everyone disagreeing with me with the exception of a select few who agree with me once they understood why I was trying to explain to everyone.

How about you, dear member? Are you familiar with this item and do you know what it's used for? Be warned, the answer is probably NOT what you think it is. Please surprise me and provide the correct answer that lacks the extreme appalling stupidity and ignorance that I have witnessed over and over on that FaceBook thread.

@Jack you might be surprised to know that dozens of contact lens wearers who responded on the FB thread told me I'm the one who is wrong because I said they're wrong when they say that container is used to clean contacts.

Some have been wearing their lenses for decades and have no clue that there's a difference between cleaning and disinfection.

Sure. Back in the day, you'd soak the lenses in little eye cups with peroxide, because that was the only solution that had no preservatives. Then you'd put the lenses in this chamber and fill it with a solution that neutralized the peroxide and turned it to saline. took overnight iirc. been a long time since I used that.
