A prominent statue of Queen Victoria has been torn down by protesters in Canada as anger grows over the deaths of indigenous children at residential schools.
The protesters cheered as the statue at the legislature in Manitoba's capital Winnipeg was toppled on Thursday.
A smaller statue of Queen Elizabeth II was also upended nearby.
Local media say police used a stun gun to arrest a man at the scene but the protest was largely peaceful.
The toppling of the statues came on Canada Day, an annual celebration on 1 July that marks the country's founding by British colonies in 1867.

These Natives in Canada have a warlike streak.

Perhaps some of it can be attributed to the oppression and wrongs by the European settlers and their descendants.
But not all of it.

They were killing and enslaving each other long before the White Man arrived in the New World.

The Native tribes of British Columbia, Alaska and the US Pacific Northwest traded their own people to each other as slaves.

And when the Iriquois Natives got a hold of 'fire sticks' or guns from the White Man, they used it to decimate neighboring tribes like the Huron.

The chiefs have yachts and send their kids to private schools (which is only for the rich in Canada), and the people living on the reserves don't see a dime. They complain about the government, but they are getting fucked over by their own leadership.

A few years ago a Canadian Senator raised her concerns in a roundabout way (without directly calling anybody out).

She proposed that an audit be performed to see where the money is going: "We need a national audit on every single dollar coming and going out of the indigenous file."

She also proposed this: "My second observation is the need for a national referendum of every single indigenous person over the age of 12 to ask them what they want for their future."

This would have exposed the corruption.

Unfortunately, earlier she also made comments about the residential school system and defended the governments of the time, suggesting that there were some good intentions at the time the schools were first implemented. That was the opening she left for another Senator who is indigenous to shut her down.

Then the Canadian propaganda machine known as the CBC News was put to work to paint her as a racist. Her suggestions of an audit and a referendum were buried. She still has a reputation for being a racist today with the majority of Canada's population because they are so misled and gullible.

I believe she was truly interested in exposing the corruption and fixing things for the indigenous people.
