[QUOTE="oldslowandugly, post: 1139647, member: 659"] I served in a strike unit on the Iron Curtain. It was a very real thing. Barbed wire, machine guns nests, land mines. We were there for one thing: to kill Russians if they crossed over. The Russians love land mines. They also have a habit of NOT removing them once they leave. To this day civilians are still losing feet, legs, and lives because of this. The reason Ukraine has been slow to advance territory is because of the indiscriminate use of land mines that Russia deployed on Ukrainian soil. The entire civilized world banned land mines after WWII. The USA did not join the landmine ban because we use them in Korea on the DMZ. It is much better to have a no-mans-land that is impossible to sneak across, rather than have endless amounts of troops guarding that border. If you know anything about Korea, you know what a frozen shit hole it is in Winter. My son-in-law was stationed there. He said if you stood in one spot too long your boots froze to the ground. You do not want to be there in Winter. The USA does NOT use land mines in ordinary conflicts. Anyone who shares a border with Russia is smart to get ready. Putin is a total scumbag and answers to no one . No country has the manpower to effectively seal that border with just troops. Land mines are an inexpensive and horribly deadly way to dissuade an aggressor from crossing your border. Besides, if Russia sends it's men to test it, they will get a taste of their own medicine.
