He was an admirable and notable ambassador constrained by his fame from convincing everyday people in France and England as to the legitimacy of America's constitutional republic.
But I've lived in far more places and talked to exponentially more people in my fame-less capacity.
Crowds showed up and bought souvenirs (even Ben Franklin glazed bed pans) because they were already convinced.
I however just interact with thousands of everyday people in a respectful manner and they're like "wow, he's the only actual American I've ever met and I can't hate him".
So as you can see, without a captured audience, I fare better than Ben.

That's a good point. I've found that a lot of Aussies have a massive inferiority complex regarding we superior and exceptional Americans, er, I mean "Septics." LOL
Inferiority.... Superiority... it phases in and out of most conversations. The trick is to know the culture you're living in and being able to bring receipts, and being humble enough to accept criticism of the culture your mind remains in.
If one can be brutally honest to themself and to others, most conversations end amicably and with no butthurt.
That's diplomacy.

No... just that I'm more persuasive in a non famous role or role of notoriety that had naturally English hating Parisians go Justin Bieber Fandom for a coonskin cap and fur coat wearing chubby gramps with gout as he went on tour for continental army funds.

I do it without diplomatic immunity and no guarantee that at the pub, work, or in random interactions I won't be assaulted or killed...

I can't begin to tell you the number of North/Central African, and Middle/East Asian peoples I work with or have worked with and had a laugh with. I want to know their lives and they want to know mine.

Mornington peninsula. I think. It's in Dromana. My wife owns a house (rented out) in South Yarrow. Her daughter works and lives in Melbourne and she reports incidents related to drugs on a daily basis, she was walking down the road one day walking her dogs and some wackjob spit in her face.
Edited to add: my use of the word "reports" isn't in the context of "reporting posts to a forum administrator", it's about her filling her mom in on how bad things are getting in Melbourne.
Yeah... Dromana/Rosebud area is pleasant... but it's still Melbourne.
South Yarra is pricey and congested.
Melbourne is an oversized Portland, Oregon these days and most of the residents are fuckheads.

I wasn't aware Dromana was part of Melbourne, well anyway it's outside of town and away from all the bad stuff that is happening. Sort of like when I used to live on Long Island which is part of NY but far enough away from New York City to experience the same problems.
At least despite the cost of living and the congestion, the property values are going up in South Yarra, every year the rent on my wife's rental property goes up substantially, and her tenants appear quite happy to stay there.
Melbourne is just sprawling suburbia..
I live in the Ranges about an hour out and they still class us as Melbourne. Ask your wife about the Ranges.

My wife is familiar with the Ranges which she says is a nice mountainous area but she says it's 4 hours from Melbourne and maybe you're referring to a different area as there are several that go by that name.

@Frood I've been trying to learn to speak Australian the past 3 years with limited success. Sometimes the wife will speak to me in Australian and I don't have my phone available to run it through the app which turns it into something I can understand.
The most recent was just the other day when she got annoyed with me playing on the computer while she cleaned the entire house from top to bottom.

thats where my sister lived, theres a picture of my mum in Melbourne museum as well. Early settlers cutting down giant trees with hand axes type of stuff.
