Shitposting online since my preteens has probably jaded me for life BUT it has taught me some easily translatable life lessons like how to negotiate with and troll prospective employers to either get the job, get the job at my asking price, or take the job at their price but set up a chain of events and a handshake agreement to revisit my back down later should I prove extra valuable.
One job interview I went firm on the ask and the owner was firm about setting up the dynamics of pecking order by not negotiating with a terrorist (a delightful and polite one mind you)... so I asked for a nominal concession amount and a 6 month revisit to the negotiations. He's like "what do you mean? Nominal?" and I was like "one cent more per hour would be nominal but that would be pretty embarrassing for you if anybody ever found out you would only pay a penny more than what you intended. They'd ask why just 1 cent? But a dollar more an hour would look equally bad for you because that's a rounded concession indicating you really need me and the dynamic of our relationship is more in my favour.... so we can't have that either. If I'm going to be a representative of this company, we both have to be happy about the deal. I want what my original ask was and in 6 months time I want a sit down with you again but I will take 25 cents more per hour until then and it's a no fault divorce if things don't work out"
The guy was worth tens of millions at the time and probably closer to a billion by now. He just lost it chuckling and said something to the effect of 25 cents is a lot lower than the 10 bucks more an hour you asked for... but I understand that your reputation and mine can't weather the gossip over a penny or 25 of them so I'll give you a buck more and in 6 months time, we'll talk.
He made himself scarce around the 5 month mark but I always greeted him politely and politely reminded him of his appointment and by the 7th month was on 15 extra bucks an hour.... he was thoroughly amused as I was. Online lessons made me think outside the box and it was work entertainment.
Life mimics art or art mimics life... I dunno. I've played some crazy hands in life from lessons learned online and they didn't go to plan.
I'm working on a mild one at the moment.... setting up ducks in a row. My current boss was like wtf??? And I was like, you don't want me here?
