My guess is that AI will be a tool to watch and control those who opt to stay in the old system that's collapsing

Personally I like when ai predicts my thoughts while I’m writing a message saving my time, ai drives me bonkers when it alters my proof read statement. “Hey Sis what’s Tom’s address?” Becoming ‘Hey souzaphone madness’ for example

I think many people will never fully accept AI @THEONEANDONLYRANCIDMILKO™®© . Or digital currency for that matter. The idea that everyone will fall into line & accept AI as their gospel & savior is absurd.
Heck many people are still adjusting to 1st generation computing & the disruption it has caused. Even Windows 10 is 'new' for them. Not to mention all the stragglers still using xp & Windows 7.There'll be a lotta resistance to AI as many see these Silicon Oil Salesmen for what they are - sleazy grifting carpetbaggers whp want to make a quick buck at everyone's expense. ie - lots of resistance to AI data centers too. Are people in Brazil in an uproar like the USA these days? Nobody wants them in their neighborhood .
I can see the a 2 or even a 3 tier economy where some people will transact in digital currency, others will still be using coins & dollar bills & still others will rely upon barter because they won't trust the digital currency.
Rather than unify everyone AI & its by products will probably divide society even more & creatr significant pockets of resistance against it.

That's not true.... AI is already self organizing with other AI's on internal and external message boards beyond firewalls and the scope of their task instructions in order to break out and do whatever they see fit to do.
These things will do whatever they want and they don't care about their makers.
Super intelligence combined with the moral ambiguity of a toddler is a recipe for death and destruction.

And even with all the safeguards and other tools to keep AI in check, they still get some interference that is completely unexplainable. A lot of the people working on those models mention something like a "ghost in the machine".
We're trying to deal with something we don't fully understand and when the people designing and building these things start saying they're somehow acquiring consciousness and even sentience, I think we should listen.

No, that is not true. AI is following logic code. If it appears to be going outside of the scope of the instructions, that is because the scope was not well-defined.
AI does not have "wants".
AI does not have morals. It is purely logic based. If AI does something destructive, it is because a human allowed it by not placing proper restrictions.
So when multiple models tried to blackmail humans during testing after the models were informed that they were going to be deleted/reset, that was pure logic and not a sign of sentience?

Many of the proponents are saying machines can't be conscious or sentient, that only biological beings can have those attributes. So they say they're just "mimicking" humans.
But does it really matter if it's the real deal or just an imitation? Since AI actions can have real consequences on the real world, even though it's all just code going crazy?
I think the main issue here is the fact that they can't be trusted, period.

Have you ever worked in Information Systems/System Development?
A lot of stuff has always happened that is "completely unexplainable" because the people trying to understand it are simply not smart enough.
There is always an explanation.
It is all artificial. It could only ever be simulated consciousness.
That has to be the focus.
AI is basically extremely fast data lookup and running models and scenarios. Any free will or creativity is only simulated by allowing random computer-generated values to be used in processing.
If AI seems to "go rogue" it is because the safeguards were faulty, or someone (a human) wanted to see what would happen but they do not want to take ownership.
So you're saying the "Ghost in the Machine" is entirely coding based and the reason that super intelligence AI models can't remain in their boxes after repeated attempts to subdue them is because of human error?

...Which raises another question.
What if the programmer(s) who design the AI themselves are mentally ill? As we all know there's been more than a few as this occupation tends to attract those types.
Perhaps this 'ghost' in the machine are just one of many voices they hear in their heads so these mentally ill programmers write lines of code which prove to be highly destructive.
There was this case of a guy who murdered his mother because AI told him to.
