Two dozen people were indicted in Georgia last month on charges of smuggling Mexican and Central American immigrants to the United States and forcing them to live in camps and work on farms in the state in what authorities say was an illegal enterprise akin to “modern-day slavery.”

Named “Operation Blooming Onion,” the yearslong probe brought together multiple federal agencies to investigate a “transnational criminal organization” that allegedly engaged in human trafficking, visa fraud, forced labor, mail fraud, money laundering and other crimes that earned the collaborators more than $200 million.

The collaborators of the ring are accused of taking advantage of and defrauding the federal visa program for guest farmworkers, known as H-2A, to bring immigrant workers from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and other countries to the United States.

At least two workers died under the working conditions, another was repeatedly raped, while others were kidnapped and threatened with death, according to the allegations in the indictment. Workers were also forced to work at gunpoint, the court documents say, earning 20 cents for each bucket of onions they dug up with their hands. Some were sold to farms in other states.


The defendants face charges that can carry up to a life sentence.

Those companies are given tax breaks for employing the prisoners. The prisoners are paid a wage fair for being imprisoned. The prisoners also learn a trade that will hopefully help them when they re-enter society. I don’t see the connection.

if you answer that you are in favor of immigration regulation/border control, then you have taken the Liberal position.
Of course you'd have to know something about economics and political systems to appreciate that,
which as one can see, the contards here do not.

Immigration (Libertarians - the Open Borders advocates)
Libertarians believe that if someone is peaceful, they should be welcome to immigrate to the United States.
Libertarians believe that people should be able to travel freely as long as they are peaceful. We welcome immigrants who come seeking a better life. The vast majority of immigrants are very peaceful and highly productive.
Indeed, the United States is a country of immigrants, of all backgrounds and walks of life…some families have just been here for more generations than others. Newcomers bring great vitality to our society.
A truly free market requires the free movement of people, not just products and ideas.
Whether they are from India or Mexico, whether they have advanced degrees or very little education, immigrants have one great thing in common: they bravely left their familiar surroundings in search of a better life. Many are fleeing extreme poverty and violence and are searching for a free and safe place to try to build their lives. We respect and admire their courage and are proud that they see the United States as a place of freedom, stability, and prosperity.
Of course, if someone has a record of violence, credible plans for violence, or acts violently, then Libertarians support blocking their entry, deporting, and/or prosecuting and imprisoning them, depending on the offense.
Libertarians do not support classifying undocumented immigrants as criminals. Our current immigration system is an embarrassment. People who would like to follow the legal procedures are unable to because these procedures are so complex and expensive and lengthy. If Americans want immigrants to enter through legal channels, we need to make those channels fair, reasonable, and accessible.

Georgia conservatives fail in bid to reinstitute field slavery.

Feds bust 'modern-day slavery' ring amid new immigration enforcement effort


Two dozen people were indicted in Georgia last month on charges of smuggling Mexican and Central American immigrants to the United States and forcing them to live in camps and work on farms in the state in what authorities say was an illegal enterprise akin to “modern-day slavery.”

Named “Operation Blooming Onion,” the yearslong probe brought together multiple federal agencies to investigate a “transnational criminal organization” that allegedly engaged in human trafficking, visa fraud, forced labor, mail fraud, money laundering and other crimes that earned the collaborators more than $200 million.

The collaborators of the ring are accused of taking advantage of and defrauding the federal visa program for guest farmworkers, known as H-2A, to bring immigrant workers from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and other countries to the United States.

At least two workers died under the working conditions, another was repeatedly raped, while others were kidnapped and threatened with death, according to the allegations in the indictment. Workers were also forced to work at gunpoint, the court documents say, earning 20 cents for each bucket of onions they dug up with their hands. Some were sold to farms in other states.


The defendants face charges that can carry up to a life sentence.

People who are enslaving them in this country should be put to death. That would send the message needed to be sent.

If I’ve learned anything while living in a border lining state, it’s that the Mexican cartel cannot be taken down. They stop one, and another cartel has already taken over in its place.

There's actually a lot of slavery going on in US prisons. Major Corporations use prison labor to produce profits for 13 cents an hour forcing 'free' US citizens working for minimum wage to compete with them.

So given ur logic many ceos would be put ta death.

Every time I point that out its gets ignored. Kamala Harris was evil and used state slave labor.

See that's another thing WE voted for. Actual criminal justice reforms. The First Step act was ...well the first step.

But he had mean tweets and the establishment hated him. So while we need criminal justice reforms and a way to help people reintegrate into society......well we get the fucking Crime Bill author and an architect of the war on drugs.....and slave labor Harris in office.

Somehow methinks Kamala won't be on the Democratic ticket in 2024 Dovey. She might but I think She n Joe oughta step down before 2024 to save their own skins. I would if I were either.
