The landslides/mudslides will probably be some of the worst of it; not that the flooding itself isn't bad.

Could be? Makes me think about what happened to the ancient peoples in Central America before the Spanish showed up. Floods, drought, famine, flight. What about the Middle East? According to history, it was the land of milk and honey before it became a desert. I believe the Earth has experienced deadly climate change many many times.
