'Murica doesn't love America, it loves its state (maybe), but defintely its town/city, church, family and friends. That's what it really loves. The level of cognitive dissonance is more like schizophrenia.

'Muricans love a fictional *version* of 'Murica.
A thin veneer of stuff 'Murica allegedly represents that falls off if anyone even looks at it too hard.
'Muricans love the trappings and lingo and vague generalities that symbolize an idealized version of 'Murica that doesn't exist and never really did. 'Muricans would rather worship a facade they can be "proud" of than even admit that the reality is so far off the mark it can hardly be described as connected at all to the facade.
It's why they get mad if one says these things.
They're so invested in propping up and preserving the illusion that any challenge to it is seen as a personal attack.
Years ago I called it the Ken and Barbie version of America. There is much to love about the real America, those stories simply are left out of the official narrative.
I recognize that in many ways part of the difficulty that feeds into this is that we do absolutely come or came to America from every corner of the globe and need to form a new identity for social cohesion.
But, we've done a piss poor job because the story is called the American dream. The dream accessible to fewer and fewer over time.
Bit the real stories are out there and weave a beautiful tapestry of American history.
Duh.'Muricans love a fictional *version* of 'Murica.

Duh.
Society is a social construct.I don't think you should be negative about this..."they" might read Garraty because they like him because he tolerates their stupidity much better, than you and I, and others like us.

I tolerate a wide range of stupidity from lots of folks.
That some of them seem to like thinking in terms of "us" and "them" has got nothing to do with me nor do I want it to.
I don't tolerate *all* kinds of stupidity, though.
That would be silly.
Case in point:
I don't know who you're responding to in the above for what should be obvious and apparently well-founded reasons.

I stand corrected. You can stand people that are the kind of absolute idiots that I cannot tolerate.
I haven't been to a zoo in 25 years.
Yes it did. I grew up there. There really were teenagers with muscle cars sucking down chili dogs behind the Tastee Freeze.'Muricans love the trappings and lingo and vague generalities that symbolize an idealized version of 'Murica that doesn't exist and never really did.

Only Ron Paul could have saved that America, the one I grew up in, but no one listened.
Now we have this.
I blame Leftists.
It was the "cultural influence" of the Left. There's really no such thing as "Right Wing Nuts" when analyzed in comparison to the overarching influence of the ideological Left on all cultural touch points from Academia, Arts and Entertainment to the Legacy Mass Media. Those kids with the muscle cars sucking down chili dogs grew up, sold out, and joined the establishment in helping create the world as it is exactly as they were conditioned to do.
We've done it to ourselves (with some help from propaganda and other cultural engineering).
"The leftists" had as much to do with it as "the right wingnuts", which is to say the ones on both sides who bought into the bullshit played their roles and did their damage like good little conformists.

This you cannot deny if you are intellectually honest, which you have always seemed to be.
I know your thing is to blame both sides of the "Duopoly" and there is merit to those arguments, but sometimes everything does boil down to a Manichean choice between Good and Evil.
I have made my choice. I stand on the side of Light and Good. It's that simple.
I'm not seeing any specifics.
Only "evul lefties" and their "evul ideas".
Evul, one must suppose, merely for the crime of being "lefties".
I'm not detecting any nuance, discernment, or analysis... only cult-like insularity and strict binary exclusion.
That's simple alright. To a fault.
Leftists seek to destroy the Bill of Rights and personal ownership and property.
Leftists are cockroaches. End of discussion.
You're not protected by the Constitution in Australia. You willingly gave that up.
Stop bellyaching about what you casually tossed aside.
You don't matter.
You're not in the game. You're on the other side of the world, so STFU, coward.Being behind enemy lines doesn't make me one of them, you retarded basketball shaped crayon eater.
You're not in the game. You're on the other side if the world, so STFU, coward.
I have a network of family that I am able to persuade. You'll always be behindI've got ticket to every game, blimp. My distant vote cancels every one of yours out....lulz
