1500 homeless people have died on the streets of LA

Meanwhile, the US is $30,298 billion in debt.

Take all of Elon Musk's net worth and somehow liquidate it, and the debt would only be $30, 063 billion.

A drop in the bucket.

You are focusing on the wrong thing.

Yes 40 years of Reaganomics, undertaking the super wealthy & wasting trillions of dollars on unecessary wars did that to the United States.

Similar to what happened to Ancient Rome. And now Europeans are finding treasure troves of ancient Roman gold & silver buried all over Europe.

It wasn't that Rome ran out of money - but that wealth was being hoarded, taken out of circulation & the society fell apart eventually unable to defend itself. The Greed is Good crowd got their way & destroyed the greatest Empire of their time.

Similar to what is happening to the United States today.

Why is Debt only important when the POTUS has a D after his name?

It is not.
Republican Presidents cut revenues and then spend shitloads of money like it's nobody's business, and when the D gets elected P, all that accrued debt suddenly becomes all important, don't kid yourself, it's been that way since Raygun, Like Joe said.

A Scottish academic named Alexander Fraser Tytler warned that when the Elites vote themselves control of the Treasury, Democracy Ends

And this has also been addressed in depth about why taxing people like Elon Musk more will absolutely NOT solve the problem of people sleeping on the street.

In fact it would make things worse for regular people.

What you SHOULD be focused on are the policies driving poverty and crime and focused on more transparency of where the taxes people already pay are going. Because our government spends a shit load of money. THAT is what you need to look at.

Yeah raise taxed on the wealthy. Wonder why it causes more problems. Ignore how all the extra money doesnt actually solve the issue and demand more taxes are taken.

I think these billionaires should be allowed to get rich and prosper while they are alive.

However - when they die the government should either take away their assets OR they should be provided with the option of designating that wealth to infrastructure projects, roads, schools, hospitals, HOUSING & even venture capital funds to help create the next Elon Musk & to keep the Capitalist system vitalistic and alive. Plus the billionaires would have their name stamped on all these projects or foundations like TRUMP HOTEL. Allow them to pass up to a billion dollars down per child or spouse but the rest would be designated for the public good.

Btw this wouldn't apply to mere millionaires but the Super/Ultra rich. Kinda like what billionaire Warren Buffet envisioned. Tax people like him but leave those making a million and below alone. The Super rich like him are like a fraction of 1% so it would not affect 99.9% of Americans anyways.

I don't think it makes any sense whatsoever to maintain dynasties of wealth. Otherwise a country becomes like Mexico whose social tensions may be even worse than the United States & nobody is safe because there's such a disparity between rich & poor.

So they cant leave it to their children or family?

How is that not theft? And shouldnt the government have to answer for the spending they already do? Do you know how much money is spent a year by the government? And we still have tons of issues that are supposed to be solved with our taxes right?

You only criticize Republicans.

But that's an alternative arrangement that would allow the wealthy to designate projects of their choosing so government bureaucrats can't get it. And yes @Dove y government bureaucrats can be just as greedy & power hungry. So what better way to prevent them from getting their hands on it than plow the money onto projects or capital assets like dams roads bridges and public hospitals? That way nobody owns those things and they cant be bought or sold.

Here's an example of benevolent capitalism in action @Dove y:

50 million of a billionaires money donated and spent on a state of the art public children's hospital.

No one can steal the billionaires money/Fortune after he's gone cuz it's already spent! Not even the government. Plus they have to invest money in the hospital to keep it going.

That's a win win solution for all.

It's not government "can be". They ARE.

So theyll basically just steal money from families once their parent dies and say it's going for infrastructure while crumbs get tossed on that while politicains continue to enrich themselves while chipping away at our liberties and rights.

How much money does the government spend a year, Joe?

No when you take it from their family.....who has the rights to that person's assets and estate....that's theft, Joe.

And it's a fact that when people have more money, they donate more and more charitable. That can't be said for the government that wastes the money they take from the public.

If the government had that billionaires money....you think they'd give 50 million of it to that hospital? Not a chance. They would throw less at it while putting more into their own interests. And theyll never be held accountable.

How much money does the government spend a year, Joe?

Well there is a major difference between liquid assets (cash) & hard assets (such as a bridge road or hospital). Nobody can steal those assets, cash them in or sell them to the highest bidder after the benefactor's passing. And if you're allowed to use or access them anytime you want, in a very real sense - you as part of the public own them.

Right?

Yes. Such as community centers.

While it's true that the governments own them you the public can access them and day of the week. If it contains a library daycare center seniors center pool etc. That is public ownership. Equal access for everyone in that community.

Yknow @Dove y there was a huge controversy where I live where a free enterprise government wanted to close down a local community center & sell the land to private developers which would have meant exclusive access for wealthy landowners. And then of course what was once accessible and open to the public would no longer be.

But the residents of the community fought back to keep it open and the government was forced to back down. And that was good. Because that's how slums are created. When the rich take everything away from the poor.

The rich are not taking anything from the poor. What?

The rich provide jobs and pay most of the taxes as it IS

The government and their over taxing and wasting is the problem, Joe. WHY would you trust them to take MORE when they already scam everyone?

Joe.....read what you said out loud

So the government wanted to shut down a community pool and sell the land. But the residents fought and the government backed down.

And somehow this is because the rich take from the poor and we should have the government.....who is who wanted to shut down the community center and sell the land for their own benefit......should take a wealthy person's assets and everything away from the family when that person dies. We as people cant have generational wealth because it will go to the government.

The government that wanted to take away from the community. Let's have them take money from the people. Even though the people fought the government on behalf of the community.

Have I got this?

It was a government backed by the free enterprise lobby and offshore mainly Chinese land developers. That government is no longer in power.

And yes there are many complaints that Vancouver is starting to look like Hong Kong. Our nickname is 'Hongcouver'. Ie densely packed bldgs with no sunlight. Too many people crammed into ultra expensive housing - just like Hong Kong.

Stands to reason since they own most of our city now. Is what happens when free enterprise takes over and everything can be sold to the highest bidder.

They take everything away from the poor and disappearing middle class.

Meanwhile, the US is $30,298 billion in debt.

Take all of Elon Musk's net worth and somehow liquidate it, and the debt would only be $30, 063 billion.

A drop in the bucket.

You are focusing on the wrong thing.

That is $30 trillion and, no, Musk doesn't have remotely that much. Learn math.

BTW in 2008 the debts was only $10 trillion so from Obama forward they tripled it.

You guys had a massive surplus under Clinton.

But it was squandered.

And the spenders failed to put any away for a rainy day.

I won't name them as you can pretty well guess who they are.

Yeah, $30,298 billion is about $30 trillion. $30.298 trillion, to be exact.

It is also $30,298,000 million or $30,298,000,000 thousand or $30,298,000,000,000.

They are all the same number.

Since they were talking about billions, I put it in terms of billions.

Did you just have a brain cramp, or do you really need me to show you the math?

"Learn math."

Would an honours degree in Applied Math w/Computer Science do it for you?

Hahaha!!!

Well, if that comes up on Trivia Night I will be sure to ring-in first!!!

For some one who claims he has those qualifications you often seem to lack logic & have severe difficulty with its fundamental principles @The Prowler.

You often lose arguments and have difficulty supporting them.

In addition you appear to lose your temper & soon after go into flying fits of rage.

You often lose arguments and have difficulty supporting them.

Liar @Joe, you have not won a single argument with me.

You may be too stupid to understand. I cannot help that.

Did you once have a nervous breakdown of mental illness at any point of your life @The Prowler? Or a traumatic brain injury?

Cuz if you are the genius you claim to be then your brain would appear to have seen better days.

Factually, no we didn't. Debt went up every year Clinton was president. He briefly began buying back debt for his final year but the amount of debt bought back was exceeded by the amount of new debt issued. Fact.
