I still want to know what breed @Admin. 's dog is, or mixed breed.... she has that cute kelpie facial line and ears, but she's fat as fuck if she is truly kelpie.
We offset feeds with great ones and meagre ones for ours. Giving her the same shit and amounts every day makes her stack on weight, particularly when it's wet and cold outside and she hides for her walks/runs. 2 medium scoops one day, a handful the next, then the rest of a dried out beef roast the next.
Puppies are like women.... treat them well, yet mean.... to keep them keen..
I really love my dog. Didn't think I had that capacity for a dog since my early childhood.
Though I chose her because she was the only female and the runt of the litter, plus uncharacteristically free instead of 1K+$ (even mongrels fetch a high price in Oz these days), we have a strong connection and she is ferocious with anybody or any pet that tries to rush our yard, our daughter, and she even picks favourites during hearty nuclear family "discussions"... (ie... she doesn't like them). Anybody who gets loud or aggressive gets barked or growled down. Lol
My daughter says puppy will always favour me. She's wrong. When I've been wrong in moments, puppy favours her. Puppy is a member of the family.

Kelpies and half kelpies need to run. They're sheep dogs (nippers). Highly attuned.... even when I greet my Kelpie, she wags her tail like a hurricane, but has to get that kelpie nip lick on my wrist first as I'm trying to pat her.... then she spawls out like a cheap slut with legs ajar for pats.
The only thing she needs to work out is wrapping herself around fence posts when on her lead. She's a good girl if you talk her out of it... ie "left" or "right" but when she's gotten aggro or chased something around, she can spool up her lead 4-5 times, then she whimpers to let us know... like "help!!!".
