9,000 children died in Ireland's brutal homes for unmarried mothers and babies run by the Catholic Church in the 20th century, damning report reveals

In total, 15 percent of the 57,000 children at the 18 institutions investigated by the Mother and Baby Home Commission died between 1922 and 1998

The report published yesterday said the homes 'provided refuge' for the mothers when they had nowhere else to turn and found that blame 'rests mainly with the fathers of their children and their own immediate families'

But the women faced appalling emotional torment at the hands of the nuns - forced to work scrubbing floors while being called 'fallen,' 'sinner', 'dirt' and 'spawn of Satan'

Commission said high death rates among infants 'probably the most disquieting feature of these institutions'

You have to ask yourself, why do the fathers get away scott free?

I'm wondering if the girls got pregnant by fathers, uncles, brothers so the exposure of such a detail would be explosive.

When I was little I wasnt allowed to play with the "colored" kids(as grandma called them). For reasons just like that lol.

They were pretty wild, unsupervised and destructive. I wasnt even allowed out of the backyard until I was 12 and just started leaving anyway.

I got a taste of that sort of thing in 1980 or 1981. We were living across the river from Philly in a new development area full of just about any race and nationality.

Everybody was chill....except a single mum that had been in the Black Panthers 5-10 years before. She had one son my age and one that was maybe 4 or 5.

The son my age just wanted to hang out and play with the boys in the area but she wouldn't let him leave the yard. I'd go over there and ask to play and she would abuse me with whitey devil shit then relent for a couple hours, then get triggered again... but her youngest was just like those two black girls.

He'd be the biggest little cocksucker to me and his mother would praise him for it.

After a few months, after I told me mum what was going on, she asked me to forget about them and not go back over there. All the women got together on their nightly exercise social walking around the development and compared stories...

I still feel bad about her eldest. He just wanted to hang out without the bullshit. They left a few months after that.

The thing about most of the 70's, 80's, and 90's in the US... kids could be kids... by the early 2000's everybody was integrated on some level.
