Why? Iran's tiny air force was wiped out during the first week of Trump's Middle East War. That is what happens when the lone super power on the planet engages a third rate military power.
The only purpose of this show is to impress others. There is no military purpose.
How much is this show of force going to cost?
Trump doesn't know. Moreover, he doesn't care. After all, it is just for show. For various reasons, Trump is losing his war, but he still can put on a show.
The Times reports, "Trump is sending more warplanes to the Middle East, according to American officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity on Sunday, another sign the Trump administration may soon further escalate its strikes against Iran.
"Air Force F-16 fighter jets from Germany and stealthy F-35 jets from Britain were being sent to the Middle East, according to the officials, who were not authorized to publicly discuss operational matters. Additional aerial refueling aircraft were also on the way.
"U.S. Central Command, which oversees operations in the region, declined to comment on the deployments."
"Trump administration may soon further escalate its strikes against Iran." That statement is inaccurate.
Ground attack aircraft, also known as strike aircraft, are fixed-wing military planes specifically designed to engage targets on the ground or sea. They operate at low altitudes and prioritize close air support for troops and the destruction of armored vehicles over air-to-air combat.
We don't have troops in Iran.
F-16's andF-35's are not ground attack aircraft. They are high speed sophisticated fighter aircraft designed to engage enemy fighters and bombers. Iran doesn't have any.
Essentially, Trump is lying to Americans again.
