Everything is cheap here- housing, insurance, medical care, professional services such as repair people, doctors, lawyers, etc. It's literally a fraction of what it costs in the US. Most Greek families live on less than $1500 per month for everything. going out to eat is less than $50 for a nice meal for 2 including alcohol.

And there's no tipping so that's another 20% that isn't added to your bill.

Grocery costs are comparable. The only thing more expensive is gasoline because of the high taxes that Greece had to implement to pay back the Germans for improving the infrastructure.

My wife has purchased several small plots in the neighboring towns and on a Greek Island.

A nice plot will cost you about $5k. To put a prefab house on it maybe another $10-15k
