In the interest of keeping my tribute sub-thread on course I will clarify that it is me who is being incorrectly referred to as wiper by a grammatically challenged member.

We have almost no neighbors. The entire community is deserted off season except for a handful of full time residents most of whom speak only Greek. During the high season tourists and vacation homeowners start rolling into town for the occasional holiday of a weekend or longer but we don't have much to do with most of them.

Works for me. I've talked to enough neighbors over the past 63.5 years.

When I try to look harder it all gets to looking worse. Doc is like can you try to read that lower line now? Fuck off doc! No I cannot & that lower line will be there when I come back next year! I wonder if anyone ever memorized the entire eye chart thereby ruining every test they'll ever have by knowing the answers ahead of time? Things that make ya go hmmmm.

Yeah it's easy, anyone can do it you don't even need to go to school for it.

Even taking pieces of rusty metal out of someone's eye is a piece of cake after you've had enough practice.

It's a lot more involved than that. Just go read about the anatomy of a human eye and all the possible issues.

It seems easy but it's definitely not. Im sure giving an eye exam is simple but a doctor will know what kinds of things to look for.

I think anyone who is driven and motivated can do just about anything. So yeah, if someone wants to be an eye doctor they can be.

Because we're both assigned to that fake moderator group and I'm thinking that's what caused the switch to flip on "toggle BB code".

My problem solving and sleuthing skills have been activated by the somewhat traumatic missing smiley ordeal and now that it's over I feel the need to share.

I wanted to double back to this comment because it brings up a valid point.

I've been disappointed by most people I've called "friends" in my 60+ years of existence. It seems that because I'm a handy guy and I can fix and build just about everything, and I'm willing to help anyone out, that they ultimately see me as some sort of worker rather than a friend, and that's probably my fault as much as theirs. Most people are ultimately in it for what they can get out of it and that's true as far as friendships, relationships etc. Even women I've been married to and been in long term relationships with.

There are a few exceptions to the rule and I do have a couple of friends who don't meet that particular criterion, and my current wife also does not take advantage of me and never has. But that doesn't change my overall lack of trust in most people in general, nothing ever will change my opinion that until they show themselves to be otherwise, they're looking out for number 1 and if it's at my expense they won't give a second thought to throwing me under the nearest bus.

So you're a people pleaser too? It happens. Just learn to set healthy boundaries so you don't become overwhelmed.

I once got suckered into baking for a whole event.

I love cooking and baking. And people I know love that I love cooking and baking. And a sort of friend had asked me if I would do cupcakes for a "small" party she was having.

This turned into 200 cupcakes and a few dozen cookies. It was some sort of baby shower that involved the men coming and children coming and of course, she couldn't pay me. I did 100 chocolate raspberry and 100 pistachio. All filled. They were so good. I baked and decorated all the cookies.

I did realize that I would never want to do that regularly as a job. Maybe once or twice a year.....but id quickly start hating it if that was my actual job.

Also when I was in after care for two years for recovery, I was one of the only people with a valid DL and a car. So guess who everyone asked for rides? I also "mentored" 5 people and I'm never ever doing THAT again. They treated me like a recovery tool.....not a person to learn from.

It was a couple who struggle finacailly. They were broke and bad with money. She offered to pay me 20 bucks midway.....20. Bucks.

I didnt take it. I did let myself get sucked into this easily because I was happy for them. But the way she went about it made it obvious to me that she planned on getting me to do it for free and instead of just asking that, she was manipulative about it.

I hate that shit. Just tell me flat out "I really want you to do this but i have no money and I cant pay you!".....I would have done it. Its the manipulation, thats the worst.

I did it but I distanced myself afterwards and I didnt "help" her out again.
