Mangione went to NYC with the expressed intent to kill Thompson.

Rittenhouse shot the first person after they grabbed, and attempted to wrestle the gun he was carrying Why he was there was due to calls going out by business for protection against rioters. Like it, or agree with it ……or not…….that is why he was there. He also gave aid to injured people but I’m not sure if the accounts say it was anyone or just those protecting property.
Rittenhouse was seen talking with police officers, and offering medical aid to those who were injured. When McGinniss asked Rittenhouse why he was at the car dealership, he responded: "People are getting injured and our job is to protect this business, [...] [a]nd part of my job is to also help people. If there is somebody hurt, I'm running into harm's way. That's why I have my rifle – because I can protect myself, obviously. But I also have my med kit
The person that got his arm shot off was also armed.
Mangione shot Thompson (unarmed) in the back, without notice, and without being threatened.

Agree with the circumstances or not, Rittenhouse acted in self defense. Admittedly you could question why he put himself into the situation he did, but he had the same privilege/right to be there as the armed rioters enjoyed. There was the chance that Rittenhouse could have protected property and perhaps lives without discharging his rifle that evening, but it did not end that way
Mangione set out with the sole purpose to murder a man. There was no doubt that if he could track Thompson down he would kill him.

This is an article written about the aftermath, by journalist that was there. Read the article before you scoff. The same person that interviewed Rittenhouse, witnessed the altercation that would cost Rosenbaum his life……..and afterward would try to safe him. He is quite matter of fact that RosenBaum was the aggressor in the altercation. He could have chosen not to engage Rittenhouse, instead……..he chose to attack a man with a rifle. He chose poorly. While initially unarmed, he reached for the weapon. Had he got it from Rittenhouse, what do you think someone so enraged to grab a man’s gun would have done next.
Rittenhouse did not shoot to protect property, that much is also true whether you choose to believe it or not.
Your response fails to address the intent on why each person was in the location they chose to be in at the time each shooting occurred.
Using your logic, Mangione did not own the property he selected to use force so violent it resulted in the death of a man that did not pose a threat..Thompson was exercising his first amendment right the day he was killed.

It was the result of peaceful protests being met with warlike force by the police early on. I was in Seattle carrying a cardboard sign when they came out with assault rifles and gassed the crowds chanting for an investigation, which had yet to be done.
When all that was actually required was a bullhorn announcement that this was simply out of their jurisdiction. They could have added “we are sympathetic to your cause” for good measure…. is that asking too much?
