@LotusBud seems to be okay with dead people collect Social Security.

What an idiot.
The clock stops at age 115, in case you weren't aware.

There are 44,000 deadnames on that list, not "millions" that are 150 years old. All of the actual dead people are placed on a grand list that's sorted every payment cycle. Guess you didn't read the article very well.

Those 44k will be terminated pretty quickly given the publicity.

So, pretty much a total lie as a headline, the average payment for people of that age was around 900 a month.

There's your total savings.

So people who die at a younger age should still collect until the age of 115?

Is that what you are trying to say, @jack?

"Deadname" is not a word.

Are you saying that dead people should still receive Social Security?

"Given the publicity" that you are whining about. Hahaha!!!!

Terminated? I thought you said they were already dead?

What, are you going to kill them more!!!

Yeah, most Yahoo News headlines are total lies.

Are you saying #39.6 million each and every month?

Try reading into what I'm typing. I'll try again.

There are 44,000 (+ or minus) dead people currently getting SS checks. Yes they are dead and still getting them. None of them are 115 yet. Anyone ELSE that has cashed ANY of these checks will be responsible for paying them back in full with interest, penalties and possibly jail time. I don't have an emotional response to clerical errors, especially when they will be recognized and fixed.

The average max payment for that age averages out to be 900 a month, with spouses getting about half that.

The headline was what was outrageous, not uncovering the clerical errors and fixing what's broken.

When DOGE uncovers stupid waste and fixes it, I'm all for it. That's my fucking money they're abusing.

In the meantime, DOGE has claimed 55 bil in "savings" yet has only accounted for 16 bil in real time. There was also 30 bil in clerical errors of theirs.

It's not a zero sum game. There's a lot of fraud, waste and corruption in our government. Many of the people doing the audits are bigger criminals than the mistakes they're catching.

Yes, and I'm also saying that anyone cashing those checks that's not dead (like relatives or whatever) will be forced to reimburse the government every penny. plus interest, penalties and possibly jail time.

So...we will get it all back.

Quite often the people caught cashing those checks or eft’s are care givers who shared a symbiotic relationship with the deceased.

Usually it's a relative or caretaker of some kind that doesn't inform the SSA of their passing.

Once there are death certicates, the info is reconciled.

The vast majority of Americans do the right thing. DOGE isn't uncovering anything that the system isn't aware of.

The issue is that not all government information systens are linked. And they never will be under our federal and state systems. Deaths are recorded by counties, reported to the individual states and subsequently reported to relevant federal agencies.

Not understanding how government, local, state or federal, works doesn't mean there is massive corruption and that tens of millions of people are fraudulently receiving payments as DOGE lied about.

Doge is simply using those few examples to justify wrecking the entire system.

If a black kid steals my eggs and gasoline is that an indictment of the entire race?

I wonder why no one is pointing out that DOGE itself needs public oversight

They use cases of fraud to justify slashing programs but what about the ones that may be working and are efficient?.

Ie - school lunch programs for children?

The inefficiency and waste may not be as horrendous as they claim and yet some departments or programs may get eliminated even if they are being well run

What's so obvious about DOGE is there's a conflict of interest because Musk stands to gain by cutting essential public services

So really Musk shouldn't be anywhere near government contracts or information

If theres a DOGE it should be run by independent auditors unconnected with anyone in the Trump administration who are cherry picking all this info about wasteful government spending to fit their narrative.

Doge seems unconstitutional

You Americans should protest and demand an independent investigation on doge

But you and others should demand a public inquiry about doge and prosecution if they are breaking any laws.

Hopefully there'll be a change in Congress in the midterm elections.

I suppose that what Trump and musk are trying to do. Circumvent the law and get away with as much as they can before then

Well that is supposed to be the function of Congress. But unfortunately the congress is stacked with spineless toadies afraid to speak out for fear of being “primaried” as Musk has vociferously threatened to do.

There won't be. Know why there won't be? Because Democrats refuse to listen and refuse to learn. Nope! They know it all, and they will not hear a fucking thing the voters have told them. The behavior of the leftists on this board is a perfect microcosm of that.

Not my country @The Question but what I would have voted for if I were an American is either a Harris Presidency with a Republican Congress or Trump with a Democratic Congress.

If none of these parties can be trusted, why give either a blank cheque?

I would have put them both a leash so they couldn't do too much damage or ram an unpopular agenda through.

However, I can't vote in the USA
