R.I.P. Matagi (Australia's CULLING of the Brumbies )

My heart is very heavy
today. Yesterday friends went up into the hills of Kosi after the cull of the Brumbies to see who had survived and who hadn't before the extension kicks in. There is supposedly retention zones around the highway and shooting is supposed to not take place in those zones. Unfortunately they found the found the last Palomino brumby stallion named Matagi dead in the Retention zones. The picture of his agony is horrifying, it wasn't a clean kill. His daughter was found killed close by with a broken neck and the rest of his herd was left standing near by waiting for him. Humane killing or alternatives must be an unspoken rule not this archaic shoot them and let them die in agony. This Matagi in his prime.
