We went to 14.01 January 1st, from 13.65 last year.A couple years ago Oregon went to a zone Mini wage, rural areas having a lower min wage than urban areas, Portland's Minimum is going up $15.95 in a month or so. Quite a few places pay more than that just to attract employees.
I think we're at $16 or $17 here.We went to 14.01 January 1st, from 13.65 last year.
If I remember right our rural areas go up to $13.70We went to 14.01 January 1st, from 13.65 last year.
why do you always think minimum wage means flipping burgers or working in a fast food restaurant?I guess stupid communists like Bernie want "the poor" to pay $15 for a hamburger.
Bernie's neither stupid nor a communist.I guess stupid communists like Bernie want "the poor" to pay $15 for a hamburger.
He is smart enough to grift an easy living by telling retards fairy tales.Bernie's neither stupid nor a communist.

used to be that way in the 60's for kids, but this is about what PEOPLE (ie the gen pop) earn.
If someone is earning $7.25 and hasn't had a raise in 20 years, why are they still working there? That isnt what minimum wage means.
At least not anymore. Think 7.25 an hour for the last 20 years and tell me people earning that are "entry level"
good question. If someone is earning $7.25 and hasn't had a raise in 20 years, why are they still working there?
How can you tell Ragey is awake? The sound of his screaming and crying.I guess stupid communists like Bernie want "the poor" to pay $15 for a hamburger.
Interesting stats. But is anyone holding a gun to the heads of those 1 million "workers" and forcing them to work wherever they work?good question.
In 2022, approximately 141,000 workers in the United States were paid exactly the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. An additional 882,000 workers were paid below the federal minimum wage. This means a total of roughly 1 million workers, or 1.3% of all hourly paid workers, were earning at or below the federal minimum wage.
Don't you ever shaddup?Interesting stats. But is anyone holding a gun to the heads of those 1 million "workers" and forcing them to work wherever they work?
Most all people go through phases during their lives of bad times and good times. Some people are lucky and some people have shitty luck. Life ain't fair.
I would suspect and hope that of those 1 million low wage "workers," most don't stay in those low paying positions very long.
I'm of mixed opinion about raising the minimum wage @Reggie_EssentIf someone is earning $7.25 and hasn't had a raise in 20 years, why are they still working there?
There's another issue as well.I guess stupid communists like Bernie want "the poor" to pay $15 for a hamburger.
Well, duh, Joe. China has had slave labor for thousands of years. There's another issue as well.
Economists, business publications & the media like to marvel about China's economic miracle but then rarely mention that it was built on the backs of Chinese workers slaving away 50-70 hours per week below minimum wage.
So if a country pays its workers less & has them working longer hours of course they'll be more productive.
Ironic too is that the Factory where the iPhones are made, many Chinese workers can't even afford these luxury phones they produce for us.
I bet if China had to be on wage parity with Western nations their growth wouldn't be as high as it is today. Not even if that wage was adjusted for price purchasing power.
Irony is the Mexican migrants I saw in California, legal or not who toil away working long hours low wages, probably enjoy better working conditions than many of their Chinese counterparts.Well, duh, Joe. China has had slave labor for thousands of years.
Interestingly, I saw a tiktok video of a Chinese man, maybe he was a businessman, basically telling the US to bring it on.
He said that they've been around for 5k years and will be around for 5k more.
Their mindset is completely different than ours.
Maybe, I don't know.Irony is the Mexican migrants I saw in California, legal or not who toil away working long hours low wages, probably enjoy better working conditions than many of their Chinese counterparts.
It's called a "hive mind," Lily. It's a Chink thing. They've been living under Authoritarian Tyranny for thousands of years so they submit to social conformity like a conditioned response. That would never fly with we superior Westerners who are imbued with the concepts of individualism and human liberty.Well, duh, Joe. China has had slave labor for thousands of years.

Yeah, because that's what happened in all the places that do have higher minimum wages. Keep people's wages down so your burger doesn't cost too much! Go Enragey!I guess stupid communists like Bernie want "the poor" to pay $15 for a hamburger.
When the minimum wage was raised here in Illinois, a lot of the fast food places laid off a bunch of kids and put in those electronic self-serve ordering portals.Yeah, because that's what happened in all the places that do have higher minimum wages. You do realize that, no matter the wages, workers are getting replaced by machines all over the place, right? When the minimum wage was raised here in Illinois, a lot of the fast food places laid off a bunch of kids and put in those electronic self-serve ordering portals.
And raised their prices.
That wasn't a very good deal for all those 16 and 17 year olds losing their first jobs just so Democrats could feel better about themselves by raising the minimum wage.
Minimum wage here is about 15-17 bucks USD depending on the industry. When the minimum wage was raised here in Illinois, a lot of the fast food places laid off a bunch of kids and put in those electronic self-serve ordering portals.

Yes. You do realize that "entry level jobs" are not meant to be permanent for all "workers" don't you?You do realize that, no matter the wages, workers are getting replaced by machines all over the place, right?
Of course @LotusBudYou do realize that, no matter the wages, workers are getting replaced by machines all over the place, right?
And you do realize that the oligarchs are greedy fucks. They will do anything to keep all the money.
Nice rant, Joe.Of course @LotusBud
The real danger is when AI not only replaces jobs but when it replaces or attempts to replace people entirely. That is the real Evil.
For that reason other than Google search I try to avoid using AI. I dont use ChatGPT, Open AI, Mid Journey, Siri whatever. Once a person uses those things they get hooked & beholden to their system.
Read real paper books write your own poetry,, create your own art, play real musical instruments but a person should try to avoid AI & automation where possible.
just my rant for the day.
Thing is these businesses introduce automation reduce their workforce save money that way but they don't pass the savings on to you. So you'll still be paying $15 US for that Big Mac, $5 for a bag of fries. Yer getting the same crappy food thi. So McDonald's or some other fast food outlet increases their profits, food prices but you the consumer doesnt get the benefit. Great for the CEOs & their shareholders but nada fer you @Reggie_EssentWhen the minimum wage was raised here in Illinois, a lot of the fast food places laid off a bunch of kids and put in those electronic self-serve ordering portals.
