That's why the system is so broken. If you're rich you do what you want.
It's just not right. And no person with as much money as Musk and all the other billionaires should be against paying more into SS. There is just no need to be so incredibly greedy.

I’ve paid into SS for about 50 years. I receive a nice chunk of money every month. That along with the rent I get from my tenant, it almost cracks my nut for the month. Also got a cost of living raise on the last deposit. I will never believe anyone will take SS away.

Over our collective dead bodies.

I paid in about the same. Elswhere I pointed out that if I had taken that same amount of money and managed it myself I'd be getting a LOT more than the stipend I get. But of course Prowler had to go all nitpicky about numbers and ruined the conversation.

So, between that SS payment, my part time job (20 hrs a week) my side music gig and my investments I have a very comfy retirement. Which I should have since these rich fucks have been dipping into the Trust Fund like it's their personal piggy bank the entire time...well at least since Reagan.

Don't be so sure. Cons have been finding reasons to take away parts of SS for decades now.

There should be one.
It's just a shit deal

I think another reason Trump wants to take over Canada because he wants to extinguish any idea that there is a country where its citizens are treated fairly.

just the idea that something like that exists bothers fascist NeoCons

It's the same reason why they wanted to get rid of communism in the 1990s so the corporations could gorge themselves and rob the middle class blind. But it wasnt a fair deal for most Americans

Sea, it has already happened. It happened to me. They take money away from a subset of people and no one else knows it's happening, so, crickets for 40 years.
Very weird. As I said in a previous post, I got a 6% cost of living raise. Is there a SS office in Portugal? The one here is next door to the US embassy. Easy to access, friendly staff. If I were you, I’d take a trip back to straighten this out. You still have a valid passport and you even with the IRS, right? The IRS is very wary of expats living over seas. Good luck.

How'd you get 6%? Unless you're talking two years ago?

Hey Joe. Seems like more than a few would be happy at the other place we post at, if Trump was Canadas pres.

I believe I got a bump 2 years ago too. I even got a letter 2 weeks before the end of the month, explaining the raise. The only mail I ever get here is from the SS. Always in a perforated type of letter.

This years bump was 2.3% offset by the Medicare increase to 185 a month. My pmt still went up a little.

There is nothing to straighten out, Sea. It was a federal law passed in the 80s that reduced social security payments for teachers. It affected millions of people. Just a few days ago Biden signed a law to stop this nonsense, but they stole people's money for 40 years. I am telling you this not because I need help with the problem (there was nothing to be done. They've stolen my money since I retired, and I won't be getting it back.) but because I want you to know they can and DO take people's social security away, and they do it in very sneaky ways. With CONs controlling all houses and SCOTUS, this shit will happen again.

I think the only obstacle they face is the wrath of the American people if they impact all Americans on social security now. The pool is too large.

What they'll most likely do is increase the retirement age from 67 for anyone born after 1960. They're going to screw over the younger generation and increase the age from 67 to 70.

True They will find sneakier ways to do it, like the WPE bullshit. They got away with it for 40 fucking years. They won't do a blanket thing to everyone at once. And yes, they'll definitely increase the retirement age.

Well there’s a whole bunch there I wasn’t aware of. I took mine after I lived down here for two years. Why teachers? Was it something you union agreed to?

Yeah, dealing with real numbers is all "nitpicky".

They didn’t steal it, they reduced it no?
