TL, DR.One of hundreds of similar posts, this one from a lady I know who is very active in the vibrant music scene in Portland.
To my non-Portlander friends and relatives:
I have lived in Portland since 1982. That’s 43 years. There is no war in Portland. There is no anarchy in Portland. There are no domestic terrorists, unless you count my cats five minutes before they’re fed. Antifa are not people, antifa is a concept meaning “anti-fascist.”
You are being lied to. Portland is a gorgeous city, with the same problems seen everywhere in the United States. Some homelessness, yes. Some mental illness, yes. Housing prices through the roof? Also yes.
But Portland is also filled with some of the kindest people who help each other without thinking. Portland tourism is near pre-pandemic rates. We are in a strong period of recovery and growth. We have some of the most beautiful parks seen anywhere in the world. It does not rain as much as you’ve been told. It does appear gloomy and gray much of the winter, however, but temps are usually in the 40s and 50s.
There are a ton of things to do and see in the city and the surrounding areas, including 90 waterfalls in the Portland area alone; the mountains, the ocean, the desert, rivers, streams, quaint small towns, farms, etc., etc. Also, there are over 4 million trees in the metro area, a stellar Blues music scene, and no sales tax.
Stop believing everything you hear on TV, radio, and podcasts. It’s all rhetoric and hyperbole meant to distract you. Do the research and think critically. Come visit and see for yourself if you don’t believe me.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk
J/k.
