I'm not "lucky", I taught them right from wrong. My son was about 5-6 years old when he took a candy from the store. He told me as we walked to the car.

This is a kid that didn't have to take anything. I told him how disappointed I was in what he'd done, that stealing is wrong. Then I walked him right back into the store and made him tell the cashier that he'd taken the candy and that he was sorry.
On the way home I talked to him about how he always needed to ask me if I could buy him something and that I reserved the right to say no.

He never had a misstep again.
