Gary, this current community could be described as a forum version of reality television mixed with a soap opera, with the majority, if not all, of the entertainment value derived from a voyeuristic delight in watching various people spread their off-forum dirty laundry across one or more websites. People take sides and root for their favorite contestant, while others demanded that certain contestants be voted off the island...it is Lord of the Flies, but with adults acting like uncivilized brutes. The fact that there is no influx of new recruits to fill the void left by people retiring or simply no longer wanting to engage in the type of vitriol that fills this forum's section speaks to the fact that the best days of trolling/flaming, whatever you want to call it, have indeed passed. But, as a true optimist, you say there is still value to be had here. Perhaps if there was an events and activities coordinator who could provide decent threads that actually led to something interesting to read rather than meandering threads where people accuse each other of being homosexuals or, and this is a new one, Jews. Gary, I'll make you an offer you can't refuse and PM you a link to a Blog Talk radio show that I submit a lot of my work to...well, it's our work since all of my Soundclouds are collaborative efforts. You can listen or better yet download the episode (I will provide the minutes cue when our write is featured since it is a 2 hour show) and you can give me your honest opinion, it may help to clear up a little bit of the mystery about at least one of the people you have been interacting with over the years or it may only add to it, I am not sure, but you will get a peek into my community....and you will learn that Poppy is actually the leader of this Hive, and the most talented...and the most misunderstood. It will be as if you are visiting Disney Land for the first time, with your heart pounding and tears streaming down your cheeks. The only condition is that the link is not be shared with anyone other than your cat, I believe you do have one, as I recall seeing a picture of him/her somewhere. When you hear who is reading the poem, you'll understand why she is to be protected, I have no desire for our work to be distributed among what's left of this community, because this community is nowhere near as mature as mine...and be honest, after listening to it, do you really think anyone here would even understand the message of that poem, the message that the hosts on the show got and expounded on when reviewing it. And yes, too long to read posts are a natural deterrent to the illiterates who inhabit this forum.
