I believe that because he's an older gentleman, he has expectations of being superior over those just old enough to be his kid and younger.

...but the human condition and aging doesn't work like that beyond young adulthood.

We're pretty much settled as persons by the time we hit our mid 20's to 30's... some weather it better than others.

Yeah, old age can often mean wiser in terms of life experience etc, but not necessarily in terms of intelligence.
