Thing is about Medieval Knights - they weren't like your Modern day 'Knights' or "Dames' of the British Empire. I don't think it was a glamor job like we perceive it in the modern sense. Back then, if the King called them to fight, they were expected to protect him and fight to the death. They didn't give 'em a Frothy title or an expensive suit of armor for nothin'. Today's British Knights get to call themselves Sir John or Dame Lady Edna whatever, get to appear on TV, get millions in royalties or appear on magazine covers, whatever. The Knight in Medieval who was provided with an expensive suit of armor to protect the King. Likewise a solider in WWII was given 1 maybe 2 guns at the most and a nice uniform to protect the British Empre, the USA the Empire of Japan. So yeah, even if he had a Black skin and was provided with a suit of armor along with the privilege of being called a Knight back then, just like the WWII soldier, he was expected to fight and die in battle if necessary. Maybe lose a limb or 2 if he managed to live.
