One of my older sisters friends said he hitchhiked across the country to see Woodstock…years later I realized he would have been about 13-14 years old. I decided he was making it up.

I was 15 when I was there. I lived in Bennington then and hitchiked in. Took about an hour to get to the exit but we had to walk in after that because of all the people.

I discounted his story after realizing that while he is a nice guy, he was also a bullshit artist, and it was the 60’s no internet the festival wasn’t to heavily promoted on the west coast

I was one of the kids Wavy Gravy was yelling at to get off the towers when the first storms started rolling in.

When we got there the fences had already been torn down and it was a free concert. Richie Havens was the first performer we saw.

I wouldn't call Sha Na Na elite. I'd call them idiots.
Nah, they just saw a niche 'act' no one was doing and did their cartoony oldies schtick, not much different that lots of bands that adopted persons for stage, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Ozzie, GWAR etc

listen to sha na na but picture The Stray Cats.

in their core she na na was a doo wop group, they had good vocal harmony imo, that amped up their image and upped the rock n roll on their songs. They weren't really my thing at the time either...but I learned to appreciate them over the years.

Tastes change, but I never bought into the whole 50s thing. To me, real rock and roll started the moment The Kinks put holes into an amplifier and got that crazy twanging sound. Everything changed after that.

This was an epic party "pass out at the wheel" anthem in my formative years.

Alvin Lee was a pretty good blues guitar player,
