That has nothing to do with him charging 3 times the going rate whenever someone came to see him from another government. Doesn't matter who paid. Matters what he charged and what matters most is where that money went.
Those comments of yours are Red Herrings my friend.
Kiiinda sorta does, though. Emoluments Clause says he can't enrich himself from foreign governments. Doesn't say shit about foreign
individuals. So if he was soaking diplomats on bills to their persons -- and, sure, it's splitting hairs, but that is the nature of law, isn't it? -- that's not the same as overcharging the governments that send 'em.
ETA: When we start talking about legalistic shit like the Emoluments Clause, that's the time to bust out the strops and razors, sharpen up, and get down to hairs-splitting. That's where the convo demands absolute precision.
One thing I get on conservatives about, on the regular, is they wanna yelp, "TREEEEEEEEEEason!!!" every time a politician gets so much as a parking ticket, then get all flustered 'n' blustery when I ask 'em which formally declared enemy state we're at war with, and how that politician provided aid and comfort to that enemy state.
If we're gonna throw the first pitch in a game of Lawball, let's not fuck off to a game of Whac-A-Derp immediately afterward.
