Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) published an op-ed on Fox News, slamming the political power of billionaires in the U.S. and increasing wealth concentration, arguing the country is moving down “the path of oligarchy.”

“We are in a pivotal and unprecedented moment in American history,” he argued in the op-ed,

. “Either we fight to create a government and an economy that works for all, or we continue to move rapidly down the path of oligarchy and the rule of the super-rich.”

The former two-time presidential candidate slammed the top 1 percent, calling out Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg and claiming the trio “own more wealth than the bottom half of our society — over 165 million people.”

“It is estimated that six huge media corporations now own 90 percent of what the American people see, hear and read,” he wrote. “This handful of corporations determines what is ‘important’ and what we discuss, and what is ‘unimportant’ and what we ignore.”

Sanders issued a call to action against these developments, stating there are two paths forward: the ruling billionaire class or democracy and justice.

I think Bernie means well, but he is stuck in the past.

He gets his information from 100-150 years ago.

The times have changed.

The entire system needs to be restructured.

Bernie is not wrong. The problem is no one is listening. I read an article that said if you took all the people that get their news from both real and bullshit conventional information sources, they would only account for less than 5% of the population. That means 95% get their voting information from attack ads on TV, and online sources that only support their own beliefs. Someone else claimed that most people base their vote on the last ad they saw on TV before they left to go vote. That is pathetic. Nothing will ever change until people are willing to pay the fuck attention to what time it is. As long as big money controls the media, you will be fed a pile of horseshit all day long.

You do realize you're talking to the human equivalent of a tree stump, don't you?

I mean, read the poast you're responding to. The dude "read an article" once and has it all figured out because everyone else is stupid and vote because they saw an ad someplace.

Seriously. Poasters like oldslowjagoff, Seamonkey and Old Joe should have to pass a basic competency test to be allowed to poast on the interwebbers.

That's a real dilemma for the lemmings. My guess is they turn off their thinking caps and go with oligarchy.
It's not a dilemma. Sanders made a solid point. I'm not sure he's the best person to have made this point, having sold out -- twice -- but the point stands on its own merits.

We are indeed saddled with a "ruling class", which this country was never supposed to have permitted to happen. The new development, which Sanders is pointing out, is that the moneyed elite are now joining the system -- whereas, the system had until recently been producing a class of moneyed elites.

I don't get that semantic? You're "allowed" to express your opinion freely no matter how distatsteful or inaccurate, but others shouldn't because you don't agree with them? I'm not talking about flaming or trolling here, but the exchange of opinions.

You used to be better than that.

I don't get this whole 'tribal' mentality. Don't get me wrong; I know where it came from, and I know why it was useful when it emerged, say, 10,000 years ago or so... I don't get why the human race seems to be regressing on that path, though.

When somebody makes a valid point, it's a valid point. Why would that pose a 'dilemma' to anyone? I don't agree with everything Trump says; I don't disagree with everything Sanders says.

Why does it seem like people in general have such a hard fucking time dealing with statements independently of other statements made by the same speaker? Are we, as a race, genuinely becoming that lazy and stupid?

Stupid? Listen homeboy, you’re about to be a bigger failure than ever before. Since you’ve become used to it, no biggie.

He used to be a pretty cognizant poster. Steeped with bias perhaps, but lucid.

Not sure what's happened to him.

...and, I wrote that it will be a dilemma for the lemmings. Why did you react in such a personal way as though you were being directly affronted? Is it my understanding that YOU are trying to also claim to be an anti-LibiCon, freethinking person?...because no such person is a conservative or can be. Are you not a conservative?

It seems the longer people know you, the less they like you.

They are not really changing. It is just their knowledge of you grows, and they treat you appropriately.
I'd say in your judgement of people you are basically a clueless idiot.

I think the above statement quote applies more to you, so maybe a little introspection is in order?

You may not like her, but it sure is easy to see why. She has your number and calls you out every time it's clear that you've stepped out of line.

I don't like you either. And I'm not alone.

Sit back and learn, @jack.

You have the same choice as anyone in Flametown.

Redemption is still a possibility for you.

Unlikely.

But still.

Possible.

I made it clear, some time ago (though I have but little doubt that, even if you read the post, you failed to pay any attention to it) that I voted write-in with joke names as the write-in candidates. Neil B. Formi 2024. Even if you read it, you missed it.

"Liberals" (who are invariably, remarkably, illiberal) want to fuck this country up. Conservatives want to make sure "liberals" fuck this country up slowly.

I'm a traditionalist, and I say "a plague o' both their houses."

It was disappointing that he took a dive for payola like that. Ugh... twice...

But it's understandable. He's getting up there in years, and he probably figured the math. He was inside a Party that was going to bear down on him like an hydraulic press unless he took the payoff and got out from under it. If I put myself in his shoes, I see him making the only smart play he could.

Still disappointing on general principle, but... yeah, wholly understandable.

I don’t know that any side wants to fuck the country up. I think liberals and those of us leaning in that direction are more empathetic and recognize that the cons antics have not worked historically.

Actually he got his fist 2 million from the payout and royalties from that book he wrote.

The rest from inertia.

There's a strong trend, on the left, of oikophobia; in practice, it comes out as a campaign of anthropomorphizing this country into an ageless villain entity which needs to be "taken down a peg."

Where would this country be without its melting pot of cultures?
