Manufacturing sites and all that it entails. Or renovating already existing factories...and that is apparently quite expensive.

You chose a weird way to say "We cannot afford to make the factories."

But, yeah, you can afford to build the factories. Employ Americans. Produce superior products. Sell to Americans.

I am not even going to mention the environmental benefits of not having to ship finished goods across the Pacific Ocean.

We don't have to ship across the entire ocean. We have trading partners at our own borders.

South Korea, China, India...all countries mentioned in the video in the OP. All on the other side of the Pacific.

The "store shelves" comment was directed specifically at "Made in China" products.

Lardo has such a short attention span.

Fine. We will pretend that is true.

So are you suggesting that Mexico and Canada can afford to make all the manufacturing plants necessary to replace the products that are made in Asia, but for some reason USA cannot?

Is that really what you are suggesting?

But they can't be cheap mass produced products made in 3rd world countries Lex @The Prowler.

If the US is gonna build up its manufacturing base again needs to be high end value added products in demand that poor nations can't produce.

Otherwise the US is just reinventing the wheel.

Mexico already does. And yes, it's cheaper to build infrastructure in Mexico than in the US.

Simple facts.

Someone please shoot me because I actually have to agree with him.
Most people who know about these things paint a very difficult challenge for the USA
to tool up to produce the products we are buying from china, they are decades beyond us in mass production technology , and their government invests in education and research, our government bans books posts the 10 commandments in classrooms, defunds research grants and fucks with higher education in general. Now we’re excising a big tax on the smart educated people from around the world that might be needed here to help grow our economy, those people have more options than America.

I don’t see America being made great under those conditions.

I get the impression that Trump doesn't even care about the well being of Americans. He just wants to line his pockets, get even wealthier & reinforce an unfair feudalistic society/rule of law. Meanwhile many European & the wealthier Asian countries are investing in their peoples futures. Canada too. Trump nada for the American working class. 10% of Americans own stocks on Wall Street while 90% own practically nothing.

Nations that rely on cheap goods from abroad and let domestic manufacturing decline are burning the candle at both ends. Eventually a default comes, poverty, suffering, and war.

Trump has always been a cheap hustler, who had the smarts to be born sliding into a gaudy home plate.

So all the products labelled "Made in China" are actually "Made in Mexico"? That is ridiculous.

And there is no reason factories can be built in Mexico, but not in the USA.

The problem with you is that you are shortsighted. You do not understand the benefits of an American owned company producing Made in USA products and selling those products to Americans.

In a perfect system, every single product that is purchased in the USA would be manufactured in the USA. Yes, that will take some up-front costs. But in the long run it will benefit Americans. And that should be the goal of USA's Federal Government: To put in place a system that benefits Americans.

I firmly believe that they've been running down manufacturing capacity and leaning on 3rd world nations not just because of profit or greed, but because it's them drawing out the last remnants of credit before a planned default. There was never any intention to pay the bill because they know something is coming and it won't matter. Nobody will bother paying their tabs. So why not use developing nations before a catastrophic cyclical event returns?

It's not just manufacturing.... but infrastructure... rule of law.... illegal immigration... budgets.

They're flogging anything not nailed down and shitting on everything, because they don't care. They know the future.

Years ago they said the plan is for USA and Canada to do all the high-tech jobs.

I asked "So what will the stupid people do?"

Nobody had a good answer.

Nobody.

We need a mix of high-tech jobs, jobs in the trades, and jobs for stupid people. Otherwise, we are wasting labour resources.

Stupid people either work, or contribute nothing. They either collect a pay cheque, or government benefits. We need to put the stupid people to work so they collect a pay cheque and not government benefits.

Even highly automated manufacturing plants need workers to do menial labour.

I think a lot of leftists are against USA manufacturing because they might have to get a job.

That could be. It is even likely, because, unlike the masses of leftists, those at the top are intelligent and have to know what the ramifications of all their actions are...

If there is no expectation of continuance or order, it doesn't matter what the ramifications are if they're slow burn managed to extract the most resources from the masses for the benefit of the few in the know. 12,600-13,000 years ago, something happened to us as a species. We've had collective amnesia since. I want to know what the cause of that was. I suspect a celestial event that's cyclical.... but I doubt I'll ever know unless it starts happening again in my life.
