Love Open World Games.

Been spending the last few days riding a digital horse and killin' town folk.

Who else is playin'?

I have important questions to ask, kind sir. PS4 or Xbox One? If both, which do you prefer? Also, if both, which controller do you prefer out of the two? I'm a n00b to these newfangled gaming consoles and need some advice.

I'm leaning to the PS4 Pro (with game included) for $400. The Xbox One X is $500 while the Xbox One S is $300 without the game included but there are other 'bundles' to consider. I'm more compatible with a cheaper console but why not spend an extra $100 and get something better?

Another question ... about open world games … can you play these games and enjoy them on your own? Or do you have to get online and play against others. That's not something that really interests me.

Stink pretty much covered it all but I'll try to expand on a few points, Scooter.

I've had every generation of both systems except for of the latest gen, XBOX 1. With the exception of a few exclusive flagship titles, the vast majority are available for both that look, play and sound just as good.

The build quality of the PS hardware has been like a Rolls Royce compared to a 73 Pinto for the XBOX to the point of being a dark comedy. Whether Microsoft has actually pried their inept heads out of their asses with the latest XBOX One, I can't say.

The Xbox controller design is slightly more ergonomic for larger hands but neither has ever fatigued me.

I primarily play solo/offline myself and the open world games are these memorable, immersive experiences where you can literally find yourself lost in exploring what has to be hundreds of square miles in virtual worlds like an adult kid in a candy store, encountering random people, structures, situations, environments, events, etc.

Open world games like GTA and Skyrim for the last gen PS3 took me over a week to arrive at my first mission destinations because I'd encounter countless distractions that would tempt me from my course as if I had a serious case of ADHD.
I'd be riding my horse and spot some maiden with a massive rack standing alone at the edge of the woods for no reason at all so of course I'll have to enquire about it and next thing I knew, I'm walking her back to her village to beat the snot out of some bully village drunk who keeps stealing her wheat lol.

Then in GTA, I'd be driving along and spot some random well dressed Russian peer over his shoulder like he's paranoid and stop at an outdoor ATM, so I'd HAVE TO pop out and wait for Ivan got that withdrawal receipt then bat him out like a cash filled piñata, grab the loot and jump back in the car to flee. See, I didn't know it at the time, but the money would come in handy when only moments later I'd be getting approached by my first prostitute, a fat black one who was determined ride me for $70 lol.

Being that you're new to it all, I'd suggest you go with a PS3 system that sells for next to nothing and you'll have tons of great looking titles to choose from that cost very little to buy rather than jump right to the top and miss them all.

I missed what Stinkyfinger had to say, good or bad, so I'm somewhat disappointed. LOL

I figure either console is just as good. I like the PS4 but I have friends who are totally in love with their Xbox. As far as controllers go, it's not so much about ergonomics. It's about the buttons and functions. That shit confuses me. Or, well, it confused me in the past. Certain things different for different games and combo stuff. That's just me, though. Learn how to use the controller, you big dummy!

Open world games sound right up my alley. I'm not a man on a mission. I'm just looking for some entertainment. I'm not all like FIGHT, FIGHT,FIGHT! or I Need to Beat This Fucking Game! It's casual, man.

I'm not looking to go the cheapest route. Yeah, a PS3 might be good enough but I'm looking forward and ahead. I can only play one game at a time, really and I figure I'm not missing much if I didn't know what it was in the first place. The only way I was going to cheap-out was to buy the Xbox One S for $300 with a bundle. Maybe the Fortnite bundle? Because that's what all the cool kids and pro athletes are playing. :) And then buy Red Dead Redemption II for it.

So, yeah, I'm still leaning to the PS4 unless someone can convince me that there is some reason that I absolutely must have the Xbox.

I was kidding, Stink only edited it and left that little dot there so you didn't miss anything lol

Kill, crush and destroy is a pretty common theme in games but they've get every genre going to fit any interest, puzzles, exploration, racing.. everything.
I'd advise the Xbox just to keep your options open since that's the system your friends are on so if in the future you guys ever decide you wanna hook up online you'll be able to do it on the same network.
I actually went co-op with another member to access certain areas we couldn't get to alone by doing these buddy boosts up to ledges then toss a rope down for her or visa versa so we could both take these blocked regions. It's the developer's way of encouraging/baiting players to go online I guess.. "I gotta know WTF is up there!", then sometimes it's nothing, just like real life would be lol.
Things are getting pretty wild these days where if you wanted to, you can scan your body and run around in the nude on a deserted island, real face and all.. I mean, it would be YOU!
Get to that store because the fun's waitin' no matter which system you decide.:rightON:

Scotts sums it up pretty tight.

PS4 and don't look back. I would also suggest not bundling and just buy the system and one controller somewhere and then add a game or two. Buy a second Dual Shock controller for a friend, but mostly usued as a backup when your dies in the middle of gameplay.

Bundles are wins for corporations. PlayStation 5 is rumored to come out next Christmas to 2021 per this 6 day old

As for Red Dead Redemption... 90% done. Beautiful, long and slow moving game that I look forward to finishing.
