He can afford to pay better. The problem is most of those workers aren't worth more. They literally don't produce enough profit to justify paying them more especially with so much low skilled labor being let into the cou try from the 3rd world. If leftists weren't stupid and actually wanted to increase labor costs they'd restrict labor supply instead of flooding the labor market with cheap 3rd world labor.

Why shut him down?
You can break up a monopoly without shutting them down. You have to consider everyone who would lose their job if you shut them down.
And you have to consider whether the government(who has a nice beneficial relationship with Bezos, btw) should be able to intervene on someone's business.
Again letting the government call the shots on business has pretty much led to the destruction of the little guy and the super success of Bezos and all the big corps.
