I missed Lily (Oak) asking me what book I've read last week lmao

Because she assumes anyone who disagrees with her is ill informed and dumb.....although shes the one with falsehoods about democrat history.

She gets her info on democrat history from a meme....that is false. Republicans freed slaves. Republicans fought all the democrat jim crow laws. Republicans passed the Civil Rights Act. That wouldnt have happened without Republicans.

And she clings to this bullshit image that was marketed to her about democrats. They are SHIT canning school choice. Smh

Anyway the last book I read is something she wouldnt touch. Its Thomas Sowells "The Vision of the Anointed".. which is an educated critic of the leftwing. I HIGHLY recommend this, or anything by him. He is incredibly insightful and intelligent. There is also something very calming and reassuring about him. He is just wonderful.

Here is the overview

"Thomas Sowell's provocative critique of liberalism's failures The Vision of the Anointed is a devastating critique of the mind-set behind the failed social policies of the past thirty years. Thomas Sowell sees what has happened not as a series of isolated mistakes but as a logical consequence of a vision whose defects have led to disasters in education, crime, family disintegration, and other social pathology. In this book, "politically correct" theory is repeatedly confronted with facts -- and sharp contradictions between the two are explained in terms of a whole set of self-congratulatory assumptions held by political and intellectual elites. These elites -- the anointed -- often consider themselves "thinking people," but much of what they call thinking turns out, on examination, to be rhetorical assertion, followed by evasions of mounting evidence against those assertions"

Growing up poor, my grandmother taught me to love to read. To love the local library.

Oaks ignorant and elitist attitude that everyone who doesnt think like her must be dumb and they couldn't possibly be reading is just....intellectually cancerous.

And hypocritical considering she has proven she gets her historical info about Democrats from memes and propaganda articles from left wing sources and doesnt even BOTHER checking to make sure it's TRUE.

Oak why dont you pick up a book yourself? One of Sowells.....or Fredrick Douglass(a Republican hero of real history)? Read and learn about concepts and values that challenge your beliefs so that when you are presented with diversity of thought, you dont respond with fear and rage?

I read left wing crap. It's exactly why I'm not left.....I know where this ideology comes from and where it ends up, and I will never support it. I will never stand on the wrong side of history.

So what books have you guys read lately?

I also recommend "The Financial Crisis and the Free Market Cure" by John A Allison.

And the Encyclopedia of the Republican Party and the Encyclopedia of the Democrat Party.

I bought the Lockwood Ingersoll collection. They are old.....but it's pretty crazy and I can see why its started the Trump time travel theory. It's fun and interesting. For recreational reading.

I also have "The Wreck of the Titan" by Morgan Robertson along the time travel theme.

I think it's more people were having clairvoyance. It's just TOO uncanny.

I recommend all these for fun. And look into the theories based on them.

I have my middle daughter reading Orwell this summer. Shes deep in Animal Farm and will be reading 1984 next. I found it important this year for the reading projects I give them.

I "assign" books over the summer and I have them write essays. My oldest gets off it this year because shes taking classes for a job training.

Then we watch the movies.

Dove, it is true that the Republican party of the 19th century did all those things. But the 20th and 21st century RNC is a different creature. Just like the DNC of the 21st century bears no resemblance at all to the DNC of the 1960s and 1970s.

See there are these things called "time" and "change."

What about philosophy though?

I think its lame Oak slammed the bible like it doesnt count. Its wonderful to read and study and learn about.

Philosophy and spirituality shouldnt be neglected.....its all things we build our world view in. You gotta have a strong foundation.

Not really Lotus.

You got rhinos who are monoparty Republicans who may as well be the democrats.

Now we see feisty Republicans who are fracturing this.

You know.....the ones everyone hates and smears? They want them outta there.

The Bible is ONE perspective on spirituality. There are many, many others. People who read only the Bible are very narrow minded.

1. No shit. I've read several books on various religions and spiritualitues. Including eastern Kundalini enlightenment, The Bhagavad Gita, the Kama Sutra(enlightenment through sex)....even Lavays Satanic Bible. Several books on various pagan beliefs and A LOT about Muslim beliefs.

2. Really? Because I think A LOT of people would agree the constant judgement and assumptions made about those who read the bible are the MOST narrow minded.

I dont think that you open to understanding the views of others and instead of appreciating a rich variety of diversity of thought.....you've kinda made yourself the arbiter on what's open minded and valid. Without really investing the time.

I could very deeply go into what I've learned and what scholarly info there is regarding the Bible....I can guarantee you wont even hear it. That you would shut it down.

I never do that. I always listen and try to understand why others believe the way they...
....even if I do not personally agree with it. I allow it. Unless its viscious lies that destroying rights and inspiring violent hate.

And regardless of very fringe cults, the bible doesnt do that.

Today the witch burning is a left wing activity.

It IS possible to accept and understand various beliefs and world views while STILL having your own....and accepting others without being forced to participate with them. That's what true tolerance IS.

Yes the times they are changing....especailly from Dylan sang that. You guys are stuck there decades ago.

The Bible by far is the best read... The best novals are written by women... and I really can't think of anything by men other than perhaps they're good at writing about animal observations... and practicle stuff like car maintenance .... boring shit like that.

The Bible is mankind's history, present and future. It isn't for everyone but seekers of truth.... People, once they have studied the Bible and believe its content, do close their mind off to other teachings not inline with the Bible so in away you are right. I wanted to know what the Bible said,... I'm one of those people who want to know EVERYTHING....

I had books that told me everything but lost them in the house fire tragically.... I can't afford to replace a library. I have to rely on my retention.

I wouldnt say they "close off" their mind to other teachings, it's important to know and understand them.....and that can be done without adopting those and accepting them as truth.

I know some preachers who have studied the Muslim and Morom beliefs in incredible depths so they will know how to interact with them as the share the gospel.
