@Jeannie Story time!!!
I was so obsessed with this band in middle/high school. Now my 16 year old is all about them. I told her about when I was 19 and sorta "met" Peter Steele(but not really lol). I had a friend who was my concert buddy and we used to go see everyone. We saw Gwar several times. Misfits with Danzig(saw Danzig solo a few times)....and we always got back stage. Able to do so without fucking anyone BTW. I have all kinds of cool pictures with Oderous from Gwar. We met Danzig once....no picture though. We took a few but it was so dark, they didnt develope well. I kept them anyway....but you cant see him clearly at all. We briefly met Dani Filth at Harpos(a really gritty gross small venue in Detroit that has an old massive disco dance floor). Dani Filth is a fucking hobbit. No pics of him but we were not expecting to meet anyone from Cradle of Filth.
So we were at a St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit that had some local bands playing as well as Type O. We knew a few guys who were in one of the local bands, so we were back in a room drinking and hanging out. And in walks Peter Steele. And holy shit.
First off.....the man in person was massive. Like a fucking god. A dark, vampire god. His presence was over whelming. But he was really approachable, down to earth and sarcastic and funny. I didnt talk to him. I stood there and STARED.....like a retarded creeper....as he talked to other people. And I was perfectly happy with that
I seriously could have just looked at him all night lol.
This is a guy whose Playgirl centerfold I had taped to my head board all through high school. So I literally spent my whole puberty sleeping under his dick. I'm glad he didnt say anything to me because I very well could have said "I have a picture of your dick taped to my bed" lol. I was like Homer Simpson looking at a doughnut.
Anyway he did look at me twice and and gave me a very warm grin both times...so i wasnt too creepy for him at least (I'm sure he was used to that). I did ask myself if becoming a Peter groupie for the night was worth the internal hemorrhaging because I'm tiny....I'm like 5 feet tall. Maybe 5 feet and inch....and I was 125 pounds (in shape) and this man was an actual BEAST.
Now I DID meet and have a pleasant and short convo with Kenny Hickey about how they will always prefer small venue shows because they are more fun and they enjoyed getting to meet fans....and I had his autograph but it got lost over the years along with my collection of concert ticket stubs.
My daughter cannot get over that story (didnt tell her that part about how I weighed the pros and cons of trying to bang Peter Steele). How I just stood there staring. My MOTHER told her all about the playgirl centerfold i had of him on my head board lol. I had that there for like.....3 years, until my grandma noticed it and made PANTS for him and had them taped on there for me to find when I got home from school lol.
Oh and when she found out he posed nude she squealed, grabbed her phone and googled it right in front of us. And we didnt shame or punish her as SOME here would think we should have done. We didnt make an issue out of it all. I just laughed and told her if she tapes it to her wall, I'm gonna put pants on him.
Shes really bummed that he is dead and she will never get the chance to go see them. I love that my daughters love the music I grew up on and they arent into this modern garbage like WAP. The problem is my daughter has hijacked my TON hoody that I've had for like....20 years lol. I guess its hers now.
Anywho here is another. They were the last awesome thing to come out of NY.
