Even if he had gone to prison, he'd simply be some sort of "hero" among the inmates and get a bunch of criminal rep.

Once again, a precedent of violence with no punishment was set and you can bet good money many others will follow his example. Impunity is one of the final stages of destruction of societies.

I am surprised he was released. The sheriff's department said the evidence was "extremely complicated". As for Alex Villanueva, he is hardcore and not at all sympathetic to suspects. He is on his way out because Angelenos can't stand him.

I'm not sure what got him released. I'm guessing that they didn't find drugs or alcohol on him. If he simply did just fall asleep, I'm still sure he can be charged, but it's probably not attempted murder.
