Her manners were impeccable and she was very poised.

Realizing and accepting that you aren't better than others, not comparing yourself to others or your marriage to someone else's and having an authentic and humble mindset typically lifts off a lot weight and negativity and helps one better appreciate their reality and those in it.
Life isnt a contest but more a journey.
That's what makes the "flamers" such easy targets to offend. They are invested in appearances and suffer a deep insecurity that causes them to self medicate it with a superiority complex. Only unhappy and dissatisfied people seek self worth in the perceived faults of others.

That really depends on your view. If you are self centered(and we all are on some level...its not an insult it's our nature) and driven by self it can really feel like you are in competition with others. One that you often lose because constantly comparing yourself to others is miserable. And it's never enough. And you can really start dehumanizing others. Its absolute poison.
But if you train yourself to be other centered(but not to the point of being a doormat or enabler) you have gentler more patient perspective. You have to be careful of those who mistake kindness and generosity as weakness to be taken advantage of.
Are you more focused on what you have? Because you'll never be satisfied. Or are you more focused on what you give and who you are?
If you are grateful for where you are and what you do have, and focus more on the spiritual side, you'll be a much happier and more at peace person. It's a journey and it means different things to everyone.
We all have our issues for sure.

The aftermath is hard on a lot of people. Not just families.
I know the program I went through is so full they have a waitlist and a housing shortage. And their emergency center is very full. Its because of people losing their jobs, and a lot of people are relapsing.
