I ate at the French Laundry with my ex girlfriend way back in 2005-ish. Even 15 years ago it was around $500 per couple once you count a bottle of wine and three courses. It used to be one of the top ten restaurants in the world so that doesn’t come cheap. I am sure Newscum and his wife charged up around $1000-$1500 for that meal as he knew the lobbyists were going to pick up the tab.
It is just so typical of these arrogant scum politicians to order everyone else to not go out, to shut down all indoor dining, yet then exempt themselves. Yep, indoor dining, not a mask in sight, and way over the limit of six people (mostnot from the same household) so as usual with them it is “rules for thee, but not for me.” Yet the low information idiots keep voting for anyone with a D next to their name so I guess this is what we deserve.

Yep, the Costco near me has been hit by the panic buyers. They restock the shelves each evening yet by noon they’ve striped all the shelves of paper products, cleaning supplies, canned food, and dried pasta. It is a frigging joke.
The taxes here do suck. Prop 13 supposedly protects us from the assessed value going up but they find new ways to fuck you. Gas taxes doubled last year, they raised the state income tax yet again, the dumb asses approve every bond vote even though the politicians never spend the money on what they claim they need it for yet our property taxes have to go up for 30 years just to repay all the borrowed money. My house was bought in 2010 and last year I had two paymeets of $2800 property taxes owed; this year it is two payments of $3275.99. A $476 increase in just one year. They claim it is because sewer fees are now rolled into property taxes yet my sewer charge was only $20 per month or $160 per year so what is the new $296 difference? They basically just tripled the rates (Well, 250% increase) because they could. The fuckers.

Not everyone survives. In the US there are around 250,000 people dead due to it. This COVID virus is serious.
So, yes, this guy should follow the rules. Especially when it are his own. If this would have happened here, his position would have been very weak and he would probably have to resign. Why doesn't he?

Let us remember that in the US the President cannot legally order a shut down. Only the 50 state governors can do that. Most of that 250,000 are in big blue states because their governors fucked up big time; like New York governor Coumo (copied by other blue state governors like the one in Illinois) ordered Covid infected people into nursing homes where they were right next to the highest risk elderly people with pre-existing conditions.
Trump could have done basically two things 1) Block international travel (which he did do but much too late; remember Democrats decried him doing that and even declared it “racist” to restrict travel from infected countries) and 2) Could order a mask mandate which Trump never did so it is fair to blame him for that one. It is also fair to blame him for talking down the threat when he should have been talking it up. It is equally fair that not wanting to create panic is a good excuse not to do that as well.
For the rest? In a Federal state with substantially devolved powers most things fall on Governors. I get why each party is desperate to shift the blame to the other side but when I hear absolutely clueless people claim everything is all Trump’s fault, which is factually less than half true... Well, I know I am dealing with a person who has the knowledge and reasoning abilities of a syphilitic primate.

Oh, and let us not forget when Trump hinted that he might order a lockdown absolutely every Democrat screamed no, he couldn’t legally do that, that the constitution didn’t give him the power (which is factually true as used have to make a tortured argument about the clause to “provide for the common good”), and Dems claimed they’d sue him in court if he tried.

He doesn’t resign because Democrats control all branches of government here and around 2/3rds of the population see politics as a team sport so they always say horray for my team. I agree that Newsum is a typical corrupt pig pol, and not the first such in CA history even though I don't pay much attention to Left Coast politics. Reminds me of some of those NJ pols we hear about from time to time, like the one who shut down the beaches so he and his pals could party down on one of them without being crowded.
It won't be any worse. It will be the same. Washington DC is now a revolving door for servants of the corporate masters. You have to understand, federal and state governments are run by people who are supported in office by lobbies. Those lobbies are the pharmaceutical industry, banks, Wall Street, oil companies, Amazon, and the insurance industry. Trump was beholden to them just like every other president in the last 50 years. NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE until Americans get money out of politics. NOTHING.
Please, people, you have to look at the whole picture. You have to follow the money from A to Z, and not just A to B. This is not about left vs right anymore. It is about the owners of the country vs the rest of us.
Get in a con governor in California. NOTHING WILL CHANGE. The state has been bought by developers, tech, and the banks.
