But.....what are people going to do with all that? Not everyone composts.

Is there a plan for people to be able to dispose of these things?

When I lived in the big city, they gave us a separate container for food scraps. That said, it seemed that most people still dumped their food waste in the regular trash. I did too. I couldn't be assed to deal with a separate garbage bin.

Waste of money. Naturally, an idiot like Lotusbutt loves it. You don't even want to compost anything that from an animal because you will inevitably get rats and horrible smells.

They already do it in Vancouver.

I try to dump the food separately into that container if I have the time. Its a bit of work tho. There's actually a lot of people who do it so it helps the environment a bit.

I separate the biodegradable stuff out anyway. I always have, because it stinks up the trash. It's not that big of a deal. If everyone did it, and just thought of it as part of what has to be done, (like brushing your teeth; it doesn't take much longer) it would be a big help.

I just chuck that in the creek and the fish and birds have a meal. They have personality like a mammal now that they know me and the routine. It’s absolutely uncanny! Imagine that…

It's a grand and well-meaning idea, but what will happen is what has happened already with all of us separating our cans, plastic and glass in to a special bin we all get from the garbage company. When the garbage men come by, they empty the regular garbage and the recycle garbage into the same fucking garbage truck and it all gets dumped in the same landfill. That's exactly what will happen with all the food scraps in the special food scrap containers they will hand out to everyone.

It will make stupid Libs feel better, though.

Let's not ever do anything right, because there might be some asshole at the end of the line fucking it up anyway. Let's just give up on everything.

That's not what he is saying. He is pointing out that it costs extra and people wont do their part and throw it all away in the same landfill. So it just costs more and does nothing.

He isnt saying "fuck it all". But if something is going to be done there should be a plan or system in place to manage it....you know? What are people going to do with this garbage?

I'm even curious what the plan is for how it gets disposed of. The article didnt explain that.

Yeah. So we should give up on everything. Everything. Why bother to go to the hospital? Someone will probably fuck up. Why bother to wear your seatbelt or have any safety standrads for cars. Someone is bound to screw up that. Don't teach gun safety, because someone will blow it. And let's just pour toxins into the water and air, and directly down your gullet, because when there are laws against that, someone cheats. Fuck it all, bro!

Geez! Calm down! Did you rant like this to all those sub-standard remedial students you used to have to teach how to use a comma?

I didn't say it was a bad idea, it's just it'll go the way of all the other eco-friendly programs like we see with the can and glass bins. The evil profiteer garbage moguls of our private sector will order all the garbage thrown into one truck because it's cheaper and more efficient. They'll just paint their garbage truck green and give everyone nice plastic bins and hope no one notices.

Of course, if government ran all the garbage pick up and processing, it would cost consumers five times as much, the garbage wouldn't get picked up on any of the 247 government holidays and the landfills would all catch on fire and burn down the nearby minority communities because we all know garbage is racist and people of color are always disproportionally effected.

What you need to know about California's new composting law — a game changer for food waste
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

Senate Bill 1383 requires all residents and businesses to separate such “green” waste from other trash, but the program will be rolled out gradually for homes and businesses in the coming months, with the actual startup date varying, depending on the location of your home or business.
Fines can be levied for failing to separate organic refuse from other trash. But those charges aren’t scheduled to begin until 2024. CalRecycle, the state agency overseeing the change,

, which provides a home pickup service in some neighborhoods, for a fee.

Isn’t garbage just garbage? Why are California lawmakers requiring us to separate organic waste from the rest of our trash?
Scientists have found that organic waste dumped into traditional landfills decomposes and creates methane, a super-pollutant with as much as 80 times the Earth-warming potency of carbon dioxide.
To slow the advance of global warming, the state wants to redirect the material to composting centers or anaerobic digestion facilities, where it can help sink carbon back into the Earth or capture natural gas to — for instance — power trash trucks.

...but it's so "authoritarian" like traffic laws, and education requirements an whatnotanymore these days.
...WTF?

I've always composted.

Why are Californians dirty animals that need legislation to do this?

I have a feeling this will only harm poor people. People with money will treat fines like a tab to not have to mess with garbage.

You cant legislate things like this. Traffick laws are different because we all fund the roads. We all agree on the laws.
