Yes BMW is considered a car that embodies the ideals of horsepower & good taste.

Yup...not only to purchase, but to insure, maintain, etc.

You have to be semi-wealthy/comfortable financially to own one of those newer models, particularly in these difficult economic times.

Even the older models are £20k and more and arguably even more expensive to run, due to age, wear and tear etc. Replacing parts on BMW's and Audis is notoriously pricey.

I'm looking for a really cheap car actually to get around town for typical errands. The cheaper the better. I wonder if I get could 1 for $2000 or 1200 GBP

I dont see any point in getting anything too expensive cuz it doesn't feel any different to shop for groceries & put them in the trunk from any pricey car. I still feel the same driving them no matter how expensive or cheap the car is. A car izza car izza car. Nothing special

If I really want one of these ultra expensive luxury cars, I'd just go down to an exotic car rental and get 1 for a day or night on the town. Try out a jag, Mercedes BMW whatever

Those luxury vehicles are overhyped

If a person is gonna buy 1 they may as well get themselves a small plane lessons included. Theres even flying cars now & Elon Musk developed a prototype. If I spent that much itd be something like that, more bang for the buck

Sure, if that is all you are going to do, get a little junker.

If I just pop out to get a few groceries, I will usually not take my C8 Corvette. It is a bit more of a big production for a small errand. The big roar of the engine. It takes a few more seconds to climb into it. People often want to stop and talk to me about it; "Nice car!! What year is it?? How much horsepower?!?!!?" And I just want to pickup some bread and milk.

Well, you do not really get to know a car by just driving it for a few days. It can take many hours behind the wheel to really get a feel for how well a car handles, etc.. Shit, even all the features in the sound system and other systems can take a while to learn.

I can virtually guarantee that if after only driving it for a few days, you tried to drive my car the way I drive my car, you would both shit your pants and crash it.

Who cares what other people think?

Personally, I buy things that I feel will bring enough benefit to my life for the cost. So whether it is practical benefit, or just fun and happiness, I decide based on my own ideals, wants, and needs.

I do not give any thought into how "hyped" something is.

I think that you are assuming that people would be "breaking the bank" to buy a nice car and that they would not be able to afford other assets and activities.

Personally, that is not the case. Whether I bought my 2023 C8 Corvette or an old junker, it would not have made one difference in other areas of my life. When and if flying cars become an option, I will weigh the cost benefit and probably buy one in Arctic White.

I live well within my means, as do a lot of other people.
